time to take your perception medication!
Nobody is bashing the Scoob. Personally, I'll always have a soft-spot for them.
The discussion was about how good or bad the Golf is in comparison.
IMHO, it's a highly under-rated car that seems to be judged on the old mk4's failings.
All I was saying is that the gti is a lot closer to the scoob than people think (in non-Sti form anyway)

well I've had more vw's than most over the years....... it was a toss up between an R32 and my wrx.
went for wrx and a good choice.
golf's ok- but don't like the dealers, prices and they are everywhere. love the wrx as it's nice and mad---- its also been 100% reliable compared the new new golf we bought some years ago from vw- which has to go back in 35 times in 18mths with one fault after another after another.

I don't like my wife's GTI. The ride is harsh on 18s, but there is too much body roll in bends, yet it still skips around. Planted is the last thing I'd call it.
The engine is promising with early torque delivery, but there isn't much actual torque.
In the wet, even untuned at 200 PS it is pathetic.

If I had to have just 1 car, I'd compromise with a Golf GTI because it can be lived with on a daily basis, and it drives well, picks up its heels and handles, too!
