As for the decision, I await the outcome of the appeal with interest.

And you think this despite the radio call to Hamilton to tell him to let Kimi past. Plus telemetry data showing that Hamilton lifted.

Fair enough.

Possibly - Or it was the fact that he had just caught Kimi's two second lead up within one section of a lap, and he had a much , much faster car at that point in time.

Why does the FIA insist on sticking their nose in where it's not wanted. If as declared Ferrari did not comment about this incident at the time or even after the race (until the stewards asked them to), why waste everyone's time with an inquiry?

The McLaren appeal will be weeks away now, which once again leaves everyone involved and the public at large completely in the dark about the championship race. Not very clever considering that we're now approaching the (anti-?)climax of the season.

I can't think of any other sport's governing body that so regularly creates headlines for all the wrong reasons. Shame on them.

The telementry showed he was travelling at a slower speed, not that he lifted. Two very different things.
I do not agree with the penalty being given after the race. Ferrari didn't even bring this to the attention of the FIA.

I'm starting to think that someone else in the FIA other than Heir Max has some dirty little secret... and someone else in Italy..lets say...Marranello... knows about this secret.... ohhh the conspiracy...

Certainly a shameful decision. There was no way that Hamilton had gained any advantage either by being forced off the track or by gaining any momentum since he backed off to let Raikkinen pass him. The fact is that he outdrove Raikkonen fair and square and thoroughly deserved the victory. He was ahead of Raikkonen at the entry to the chicane anyway.

If the other teams had any kind of honour about them they would refuse to take part at Monza next week unless Hamilton is reinstated.

Unfortunatly all that would acheive is a Ferrari 1,2 and prob a £100k fine per team...

The FIA just don't have to answer to anyone do they... disgraceful..

I hope Hamilton wins the season anyway, just to wipe their noses in it. I'm not sure whether I want to watch the remaining races now though.

Did anyone else hear the Boo'ing when Lewis stepped onto the winners podium?

Don't tell me there are still some sour grapes Alonso fans out there?

Or was it the FIA bench....

McLaren’s appeal to the FIA Court of Appeal in Paris is not expected to be heard before the Italian Grand Prix in Monza next weekend, but an FIA official said that he was “not sure if it would be admissable”.

Here we go

Well, if you try and cheat like Mclaren were proved to have done last year, maybe the FIA don't like helping you.

AIUI, the rules are that if you do this you must immediately relinquish the gained position. Hamilton didn't, he got some speed up then relinquished his position. If he had lifted off as soon as he got back on the track and let the Ferrari pass then there'd be no penalty. He didn't, we went someway down the straight before doing so.
This is the ruling cited by the FIA as having been infringed:

Breach of Article 30.3(a) of the 2008 FIA Formula 1 sporting regulations and Appendix L chapter 4 Article 2 (g) of the International Sporting Code.

2008 FORMULA ONE SPORTING REGULATIONS
30) GENERAL SAFETY
  • 30.3 a) During practice and the race, drivers may use only the track and must at all times observe the provisions of the Code relating to driving behaviour on circuits.
International Sporting Code
CHAPTER IV - CODE OF DRIVING CONDUCT ON CIRCUITS

2. Overtaking
a) During a race, a car alone on the track may use the full width of
the said track. However, as soon as it is caught up on a straight
by a car which is either temporarily or constantly faster, the driver
shall give the other vehicle the right of way by pulling over to one
side in order to allow for passing on the other side.
(left this in but doesn't apply at all to this incident but doesn't that mean that you can't defend)

f) The repetition of serious mistakes or the appearance of a lack
of control over the car (such as leaving the track) may entail the
exclusion of the drivers concerned.
  • g) The race track alone shall be used by the drivers during the race.
Notwithstanding the fact that Raikkonen and others left the track but weren't penalised (strange that) there was little option for Hamiltion other than take the exit that he did because if he'd hit Raikkonen the penalties would have been draconian.

Although I can't stand Hamilton and can't be accused of the jingoism of others it does seem yet another decision that gives credence to accusations of bias within the FIA and on that basis he/McLaren have been dealt with unfairly.

Most football fans? I'm not into football much myself but I think this is a very poor comment.
I would guess that less than 1% of football 'fans' cause trouble.

The telemetry apparently quite clearly shows that Hamilton backed off and was 6 kph slower across the line on the straight, he did not gain any advantage.

I just wonder if a McLaren pulled out of their pit into the path of another car what the response would be?

The entire McLaren pit gagarge would be nuked from space. It's the only way to be sure. I would have thought that was obvious.

Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali was thrilled with the turn of events, however, and stated: "I have often said the race is not over until the official results are published and that was the case today."

And Luigi has dropped off the brown paper bags full of used £10's to the stewards.

That is what the FIA are saying and I completely agree. Wouldn't matter if it was Hamilton or Sutil, an unfair advantage was gained at that point.
