how can that roof brush put diagonal marks into a roof or bonnet ?

its a fixed brush, it rotates one way, the bristles go from front to back in straight lines ?

it does not go side to side, it rotates one way, any marks would pretty much be in straight lines (always a small exception to the rule )

i cant vouch for that wash itself, but i can easy put my face/hands into mine when its spinning and it does nothing more then tickle the skin, infact i am sure i posted a picture of me doing the exact same thing on this forum a few months back !


seen far bigger "damage" from people using jetwash booths with brushes and not rinsing them properly to be honest!

i actually have a paint correction job coming in soon, from a new clio that was taken to a handwash and somebody dropped a sponge on the floor

never been to a car wash before in my clio or my scoob. i use to enjoy going to the car wash with my old man when he had him bimma(when i was little of course)

I would beg to differ. I have my doubts that they are from space pixies brandishing tiny brushes exploiting your car's paintwork weaknesses in the depths of the night.

As said, the 'swirls' you see are random lines, both straight and circular.

To state that car wash damage is a myth and merely a result of 'detailers' scaremongering is untrue. I have a catalogue of pictures and vehicle damage reports to verify this. One particular customer of mine took his brand new Aston Martin, completely swirl and scratch free, to an ARC carwash, that advertised a 'safe' system, and the car ended up looking like someone had been at it with a brillo pad. It cost him a fair bit more than £3.50 for me to correct it and make the car look like it did when he bought it (although, as a digression, it actually looked better.)

I don't have any problems with automatic car washes. I would never want, or try to take business from them, as they have their place just like the Asda/Tesco hand washes, and people are entitled to take their car there as they wish, however, there is absolutely no way you will have a perfect finish on your cars paintwork if you do because the techniques and products used are simply not safe. I can prove that a million times over.

i am not saying they do not cause damage, i am saying the photos above are not carwash damage

the aston should have had straight lines on it, if anything, other wise it was not done in the wash + the aston bloke spent 3.50 on a carwash, and then complained it was not good enough, se my above post re: mcdonalds

1 trip simply could not make any visible difference to the paint unless something was SERIOUSLY wrong with the machine, the bristles are designed to be star shaped so the soap lubes them in use, making the soap/lube travel to the tips and clean any foriegn stuff from them, the chap could have tried to claim for the repair to his paint and a system is available to do so, so either he never bothered, or he tried and it was rejected,he would have been rejected for the reasons i have already stated, i could go and put mine into the wash right now (if the wheels were not to low a profile + the spoiler) and it would come out looking no different, repeated washing would start taking the finish off, like in my 3 wash per week over 6 months test)

nobody has stated any myths, i have simply said that any diagonal marks can not come from a system that cleans in straight lines, it is impossible, the car would have to be parked diagonally inside the machine for it to happen.
