A-Plan Insurance rip off
#31
£15 is very reasonable for the admin charges as said by other a lot of other companies will charge a lot more to change the details for the private plate, i myself cant recommend them enough to friends and family and whenever they they have rang for a quote have amazed by the competitive prices, and friendly staff on the end of the phone, but that is just my opinion.

they are the ****ers who im with, they managed to quote me on a car, get the reg, not notice its ****ing wrong and my car was taken off me by the old bill
they ask for the reg for a quote then tell me that they dont check when starting a policy as its not able to on there system,,,, EVEN THOUGH THEY POLICY IS MENT TO BE ON THE INSURANCE DATA BASE
oh and it dont take a hour to change a reg on a policy, its not even a new policy started its just a ammendment on a reg and printing out forms,,,, considering that i pay 1200 quid a year id think it was a little excessive to charge a extra "admin" fee
my old insurance was the nuts, even wrote to dvla telling them they have no interest in the plate of a car that was stolen,,, even thoguh they never unsured it !!!
A plan aint the best IMO, just cheep

IT is YOUR responsibility to check the reg is correct not theirs I am sorry but you cannot blame them if you didn't correct it yourself.
Regardless of how much you pay as this is proportianate to the risk, the admin fee for any amendments is a seperate issuse and is clearly stated within their documents, I think it is a bit harsh to slate them the way you have TBH.
If your old insurance was the nuts as you put it why did you change?????

A plan are great, have good service and clearly state what charges they will pass on if you change details on a current policy.
Why not do the changes when you come to renew? No additional charge!

I'm with A Plan, have been for 3 years now. changed my reg in March and wasn't charged a penny. A Plan all the way as far I'm concerned

So you pay a large amount of money for a cosmetic private plate , you pay £80 to the government for the privilege of swapping it over but you moan about £15 to A-Plan for them changing over your insurance policy details for you . You don`t make sense mate . Its not compulsory to put a private plate on , it was your choice . So in the grand scheme of things in the process of putting a purely poser plate on whats £15 ?. If that bothers you get a push bike , you don`t even need insurance or to put a private plate on it and think of all the money you`d save .
A-Plan are spot on in my experience of dealing with them over many years. We have 5 cars insured with them and the service is superb

I think a heading o f'' A plan Rip off'' is a bit stong for a person with only 10 posts !!
A plan ae one of the most respected and cheapest insurance company in the subaru community and Im sure £15 is a basic cost that their insurance company pass on to A plan so it is only right that they pass it on to you .
Most of CS /TTS and D&G use A plan and many have done for years with excellent prices and serivce
as the Captain said whats £15 in the total cost of running a scooby might get you 50 miles in fuel if your lucky or 6 pints of beer which will give you a bad head in the morning
£15 is a mere nothing in the overall cost of life ,why not leave the standard reg on then if £15 is expensive ? and im sure many other enthuastics will be on to defend a long outstanding company like A Plan

I'd be more peed off with the transfer charges the DVLA charge, significantly more than £15.
It's a beef over nothing IMHO.

You surprise me, its a beef over made up extra revenue charges. Pluck any figure that sounds OK'ish and try it on. Pretty much like the norm in lots of circumstances in this country today.

The point I was making wasn't about the actual amount - £15 isn't a lot of money - but then again that depends on personal circumstances doesn't it! Besides it was the fact that a fee was charged at all. Looking at last few posts it doesn't seem to be standard procedure to charge a fee, a couple of lads haven't been charged at all so why have I?
Also you have no right to make a judgement on anyone who chooses to change their plate, 'lord harding', and what the hell does it matter how many posts a member submits, didn't realise there was a tally being kept. I thought that a discussion board was simply that - a place to discuss issues that are important to members.
I can assure you that wife is no poser, she has a totally unmodded FTO, so no posing there! The plate was bought for personal reasons that don't concern anyone else but her.
My original point remains the same I am not happy with being charged this fee, I have never made a claim so no work has been done on my behalf, apart from the initial setting up of the policy, and I have had to mither twice to get the policy sent out when renewal was due. I have been insured with them for some time and so has the wife, but definately won't be renewing. Good luck to those who are.

The basics here is that a small administration fee seems justified to me if there's more work involved than just editing a reg number on a screen. To think any alteration to a policy already in place shouldn't be subject to an admin fee seems unreasonable to me.
In essence there is an extra revenue charge as there are added requests of work.
Why not write in to the DVLA and complain about their £80 charges?

I edited the £80 before you posted. As for the rest of what you say I don't really understand your point.

The charge seems justified to you, fair enough. My point is if you tell these muppets you won't be paying it if they want the business, they always waive it in my experience.
Comparing what the DVLA do in the legal process of a plate transfer to keying in a new number on a screen is a poor comparison. The transfer fee has been £80 for as long as I can remember changing plates over in the 70's although the retention idea wasn't available then.
To sum up, if you're happy to pay what I consider daft charges then good for you.

I have used A-plan for years without any problems. I have changed address through them and insured additional vehices and found them helpful and friendly, they also acted well on my behalf when persuing a claim from a 3rd party.
I have had occasions where my postcode was wrong on a document, they had once noted the registration wrong, I spotted this early as I check my documents, but these IMO are minor issues which were instantly rectified and could happen through ANY company. personally I wouldnt criticise the service based on this, its when you need to make a claim or require assistance that the service is most important IMO.
As for an admin charge for changing your plate, its written in the policy document which ammendments are FOC and which have costs attributed. If your not happy then perhaps the car should have just retained its original registration?

You're assuming that all they do is type it into the screen and that's it. I'd be surprised if that was the case and if it was then I wouldn't consider £15 to be a fair costing. I've never paid for policy amendments either

Sounds like a lot to start with but there is a cost involved, I think a two minuet call is a bit unrealistic, when have u called a busyness and not been on hold for a good few minuets? they prob get put on hold with the broker they are calling. I'm with A Plan and they have saved me a packet with my scoob, they are polite friendly and efficient in my experience too....and of course unlike other companies I have been with you get to speak to someone in the uk.

direct line may not charge, reason may be the premium you pay is a couple of hundred pounds more, A plan are cheaper so this maybe the reason, you get what you pay for at the end of the day, pay the £15 and next year go to direct line who will be at least £200 dearer

It took me ten minutes at the DVLA Office to swap and you get a new MOT and Tax disc.
As already stated it's not the broker it's the company.

I got a private plate for the RB5, direct from the DVLA everything was included in the price - they changed the MOT certificate and the tax disc, the only thing left was the insurance certificate - Elephant charged me £12.50 for the pleasure but I thought that wasn't bad considering that overall charge for the plate. They have had to supply a new certificate of Insurance for something that was my fault.
