top gear vs 5th gear!

I don't think anyone here has pointed out that TG is filmed in front of a live audience and FG in a closed studio. I think that makes a massive difference to the entertainment level making those on FG try to hard to be funny and 'interesting', something that Clarkson has just near-perfected over the years - just thinking back to the last series with the Nissan GT-R in Japan and his Bill Oddie gags.
Personally I think the celebrity laps are the dullest part, but at least there are no advert breaks.
The two are of a different format. Top Gear used to be about reviewing everyday cars and it got dull and cancelled. Now it's more entertaining even those not interested in cars watch it. I feel Fifth Gear has now decided to go the same way for ratings.
The magazine reviews the cars in a better light than the TV programme if that's what you're after. Though I suspect if you're really after seeing how good a car is, you'll drive it yourself

I watched 5G last night and was pleasantly surprised, its now watchable, before I found it unbearable to even watch it. But its not even in the same league as TG, that said TG is getting abit stale, needs some new ideas.

How many of us S-Netters have honestly ever spent our own hard-earned cash on a NEW car based solely on a test drive by either TG or 5G? I reckon pretty much no-one. There are far more factors involved than their recommendation. We have our own opinion, can do our own research (eg. magazine reviews, word-of-mouth, forums etc.), carry out our own test drive and make our own decision.
That leaves the rest of the population: the majority who are not that interested in cars and just buy a car to get from A to B. I can't see many of them trawling through hours of TG or 5G, just on the off-chance that they do a group test of a car they might want to buy. They'll just buy whatever fits the bill.
What I am saying is that the sensible road tests don't actually matter all that much. They died out on the original TG years ago at about the time that Clarkson made his original Vauxhall Vectra review. Sensible new car tests only make interesting viewing to most of us if the car gets slated, which isn't good news for the Manufacturer.
To be honest I don't actually think there is room for both TG and 5G in our schedules, as they are so similar. I never miss TG, but rarely get to see 5G. So last-in, first-out I'm afraid. Bye, bye 5th Gear.....

Tiff I can cope with, but the stumpy munter needs shooting. Even Tiff would be out of place on TG as he hasn't the wit or charisma to keep up with JC and JM. Hammond only just fits in as straight guy to JC's 'short person' jokes. If they were to add a wimmin to the show it would have to be either Sabine or Jodie, but neither have the charisma to fit in on a regular basis. Jodie would look great in some open blouses and micro-skirts doing reviews though
Jodie....'So guys, here's the new Maserati'
Male viewers....'Did she just say we can Masterbatey'

The bit that annoys me is two superb drivers in two cars, surely two drivers and swap cars for a better idea of which is better, not who's quickest in one of them....

P.S. anything car related beats EastEnders, Corrie, etc
