Or don't have the child in the first place if you can't afford both

Strictly the only public schools are the dozen or so, so-described in the amended act. At the time other established independent schools sought to associate themselves with the schools listed; and the term came to be used colloquially to describe all fee charging schools of that type.
Thus, anybody claiming to have been to 'Public School' but who did not attend one of the above is, in point of fact, a deluded oik.

Is a public school one that is for the use of the public?

If so, yes I went to a public school...Bowring Park Comp, loverly place, reminded me of a prison, or what I imagined prison to be like...and turns out I wasnt far off.

Didn stay for the exams (which probably shows) I was more interested in riding my Maico490 across the local golf course, jumping the bunker aproaching hole 7 was the highlight of my day.

It was an early start though....syphoning petrol at 5 in the morning, stashing it in the woods, nicking milk and pure orange from doorsteps.
Later on chippy for lunch, chips stuffed in a crusty batton 30p, lucy from the kiosk(consulate)5p, with a match..not a care in the world.

I loved my last two years, when I did turn up I was told to go home...weird.

Oh my poor parents, if my lad does to me, what I did to them, Im kicking the chair away.

Well I went to a highly regarded 'public' school which has a fantastic academic standing etc. But because it wasnt one of the original intake of schools, that makes it an oik school. Well I can live with that

I was brought up in a low earning family so to speak, so was never gonna have the opportunitiy for private education. So I went to state schools at infants, primary and secondary level. I wasn't a 'boffin' but have got some brains about me. Left at 15 (nearly 16) in June 2000 with 11 GCSE's. I got

1 A
5 B's
2 C's
2 D's
1 F

Went to a normal non private college and left with the equivalent course to 2 A-levels at 'B' grade's.

So I didn't do too badly, but at 24 I haven't used my natural thirst for knowledge or grades to my benefit - ie I'm an unemployed bum currently.

Looking back, I would have liked the opportunity to go to a private school, as my life would probably be financially in a superior position to what it is now.

I got 2 C's, 3 F's and 2 U's at GCSE. Not bad for pretty much giving up on school at 11/12 years old.
