lol took him a print out of the web page and he said yep order it and he'll fit it for me for 3 hours labour. Also getting the water pump as well as he said best do the whole lot whilst doing it. I think all in its going to work out £378 so a lot better than the £600 my normal garage wanted and £100 better than the parts he was going to fit.

Thats the whole point, these quotes are only 'quotes',as untill you get the thing in bits you won't know what you need. Also, the labour will go up because of this.
This is one of the ways many garages make more money, give a low quote, then load it with 'must replace' items.

My mate runs a garage and he says that in the case of a job like a timing belt change there can be other things that need replacing. His policy is to quote with caveats and then if any of the caveats come up on the job to talk to the customer before proceeding and then to give the customer all the old parts that have been replaced so he/she can see for themselves what work has been carried out.
He isn't the cheapest but not the most expensive either and you have to wait a good few days to get a slot to have work done as he is always busy - that says it all about a garage to me.

No as found my local garage services other scoobs so decided to use him as he is close and can walk back/Mrs pick me up without hassle. Couldn't be doing with the drive to Pluckley and getting home and then doing it again to get the car back.
