Shamelessly stolen from Bike Radar.

This is why we cycle:

Leisure by William Henry Davies (1871-1940)

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.
No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.
A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

Now there is no money in the bank,
The financial system has gone to ****,
I cycle because petrol is so pricey, even though the roads are dicey
Every turn is fraught with danger, Due to the **** in a Range Rover
It pisses down most every day, it's cold as well and I must say
My ***** shrinks in an amusing way and is no use to Man nor Beast
Nor my wife, due to yeast
I am glad that size it does not stay, it just needs time and some attention
perhaps perchance some meaty Wench on.
I wear my cape for it is bright to avoid the trucks that are not light
if one hits you you end up dead, but at least Tesco's gets fresh bread,
So I ride to due to clueless bankers and have to cope with impatient *******
Every bugger is in a rush to join a queue and I just push to the front
and overtake every ****.

Reading this lot reminds me when i used to cycle to work and brings back bad memories.
I'd get up in the morning, look out of the window and it a nice sunny morning. As soon as i get my @rse on the saddle it pi$$es it down. When i get to work it stops raining and is sunny all day, so i thinks, great! it will be a decent ride home.
No such luck, i finish work and as soon as my @rse is on the saddle it pi$$es it down, and stops raining when i get home and the sun comes out.
And i swear it did this every day for 12 months!!!!
And another thing, why do they build those damn cycle lanes where nobody ever, ever, ever rides a cycle?
So do yourselves a favour, get a hack saw and cut the b@stard up into little pieces, i did and a felt a lot better. No more covered in sweat, no more swollen gonads, no more runny nose, no more expensive, state of the art lighting systems that don't f@cking work. No more reading in a cycle mag about the latest state of the art cycling must have gizmo, buying it and then the following month reading in the same mag that its a pile of ****e and a latest state of the art gizmo is much better.
Rant over

I really enjoyed my ride in today, weather was ace, about 6 deg, chilly but not bitter, very pleasant, ride back was ok but the dark is coming, I dont mind full dark but I am not keen on the not quite dark stage. With the right gear, the rain isnt so bad, in fact any one factor is ok, cold, rain, dark, maybe even two of them but all three will be a testing time, in fact forget that, I can cope with all three but its other traffic I dont care for.

I can cope with any bloody weather except the wind. I goddamned hate the wind.

Even as a tail wind it can be a pain, 'cos you can turn a corner and WHUMP! Invisible pillow in your face.

Yes, wind is a pain, I prefer it to lorries though, I can cope with a Headwind, but not a HeadTruck.

And why have all the farmers fitted dangerous spikey stuff to their tractors ?

LOL at Head Truck

I've noticed this with farmers and concluded that it's a new sport - pot the cyclist or something. I don't believe that they use any of this equipment on their fields, rather that they just drive around looking for someone to scare with it by squeezing past them be it on a bike or in a nice new shiny car

For a bozo like me with a heavy, cheap crap bike the weight difference will make absolutely no difference. This morning was ok but we will see how they work out.

Lancat are you riding through broken glass or running down sharpened hedgehogs? I've not had a puncture in a year now and I ride down some rough roads / tracks and even some cycling routes that have glass shards on them.

Kind of looking forward tonight (ish) as I'm almost guaranteed a steady tailwind the whole way back, plus the colder darker nights are keeping the pillocks off the bridleway so I should be able to tank down there without a problem this time.

I had my lights on this morning for the first time - I don't leave until 7:20 and not needed them until now. I don't know whether it was just because it was so glum but there was no way I was not using them.

I'll also try my buff out tonight and see if it keeps the rain off my face, and keep my nose from running in the cold Cycling in the buff.... gonna be fun!

Two bridleways seem to get me. Always seems to be thorns cut/fallen from the hedges.

Great scenery LanCat!

Si - I know, I know.... I was touching wood at the time, my disciplinary hearing is in a few minutes.

Knowing my luck I'll have another bloody bird strike!

(I have spare tube with me at all times....)
