All the significantly wealthy folk I've encountered in my life wear non-branded clothes, usually drive 40yo Land Rovers and never flash their cash. People who do need to advertise their money are considered vulgar and common.

My cousin told me of a couple she knows who have wardrobes full of designer tatt, but usually have no money to go out, treat the kids, run a car or pay the rent on their council house

There's a difference between spunking your cash on overpriced tat and investing in a few good quality staple items of clothing.

Don't try and use my argument to explain the mountain of shoes and bags in your wardrobe!

My own observations. Designer label clothing tends to be worn by people whom feel some need to show the world they have some worth in life. Council estate scruffers trying to show off, some working class types who've got lucky and made a few bob, football hooligans 'out-dressing' each other (weird, but apparently they do ). Usually, the poorer the person, the more flamboyant the label, or at least the more flamboyantly the label is displayed.

All people I choose not to associate with.

I wonder if the photo of your trainers you sent to me is still on my mobile? Now they don't need any accessorising.

A lot of high end clothing or good designer wear will have little or no branding visable and rely on the materials and cut to show the quality. If of course you're refering to sh!te like G-Star, Stone Island, Diesel etc then we're not discussing the same thing.

Gok **** or the two (ronnies) Trany and Swarfega would have a field day in here..

Im still comfortable wearing my straight cut, no nonsence jeans, hush puppy-esque boots and tee's that i used to feel comfortable in as a 'Yoof'.. still look smart, still feel good too.... only real 'designer names i'll wear are Fred Perry ,Levi's and Ben Sherman..(just suits me, orroight!!)
I have a range of expensive attire that i never wear, in fact tend to shy away from even if its a collar and tie kinda thing.. the suits in my 'drobe only really ever come out for funerals these days.

would I wear Matalana/primani / george at Chavsda gear.. hell yeah.. I do often.

Now...

Bog standard M&S jeans for me, last for years, they fit, and I don't give a rodents ring piece about fashion. I buy the darkest ones I can so they last longer, as the wife stops me wearing them when they've gone almost white I used to buy no name workers jeans from a real old fashioned gentleman's outfitters. The denim was so thick it was like wearing canvas, and if you got wet or sweaty, you're legs were died blue. They usually had a weird combination of pockets, including one for your hammer.

I always buy Next jeans. At £20 a pair, you can't go wrong, plus I know exactly what size fits in there....

Lol there is some crap spouted on this thread. People would have you believe that anyone with a decent amount of dosh wears plain old unbranded clothes 24*7 as thats the "look" if your minted Might be some who do but a lot dont. Same with anything really including cars - if you can afford it and like it then get it. Doesnt have to be exponentially better than the cheaper one to justify it.

Arguably spending only £10 on a pair of jeans instead of £110 is quite a good way to get to BE minted...

Fortunately Dave, none of this applies to me. I do, however, take a pride in my appearance.

I've decided the people in this thread buying primark, next, m&s, next etc jeans are the types who own subaru WRC fleeces and are at their happiest looking under a bonnet of a car. Christ you spend silly money on a chav car (so do I) yet think spending £100 on an item of clothing which will last years and give lots of wear as daft.

And how many pairs of jeans do you have to buy at that price difference to become minted

I don't own ANY Subaru branded clothing, prefer driving my car to peering at it's plumbing, and buy Marks and Sparks jeans because they fit, last for years and are good value.

As for chavness, I've no fluffy dice, blacked out windows, galvanised dustbin for a backbox, deafening stereo that shakes Pandas out of their bamboo forest homes, suspension so low that the undertray has mole dandruff on it, and I don't go round saying wicked, phat, innit, chill motherfu**er in a faux Detroit accent.

Fleece? FLEECE fur-fekkin-leese??!?!!?!?
I dont even have a Soobroo

I DO however, own two cars (one four month old and one a 'missile/foible') I have two (read TWO ) yes 2.. mortgages.. yet still cant be bothered wearing something JUST because it has a label. If it suits and feels ok, I wear it, if not I dont.. simple as.

People buy designer brands for one reason, and one reason only: so that other buyers of designer brands, or people who can't afford but aspire to designer brands, notice the fact that they wear designer brands.
