Pop Idol voting - rigged - of course!!!

Apparently the bulk of people who vote is these wretched contests are girls and the gay community - that's why the females were booted out relatively early on
And I'm sure you noticed that the male finalists were of ambiguous sexuality, so appealed to both groups.
Personally I 'd like to see a similar contest, but to find the best lap dancer in the UK.

A few thoughts to assist the discussion:
- Will is a nonse (camp as hell and an under-slung jaw to assist his Jonathan King technique)
- Gareth put the stutter on to gain sympathy from all the clucking maternal types in the viewing public
- women out-voted the gays in the voting stakes so none of the fantastic young birds had a chance
who's up for a **** Idols next?

I watched EVERY episode including Pop Idol Extra and totally loved it, except when Jessica (Madonna) Garlic was chucked out
Yes, it was manufactured
Yes, it's all about money
Yes, Will is going to be singing slush for a year
But!
If you seen the show from the beginning you would have seen what these kids had to go through. Some early auditions were sooo funny, with the YMCA girl and the Kick-boxing champion who wanted his "go" with Pete.
I'm a bit dissapointed with the whole "lets sign Gareth anyway" thing that's going on. If I was Will I'd be feeling a bit cheated. I mean, do you think they would have signed Will if HE'D lost?
Good show but it wouldn't have appealed to the minority who are tone deaf or have no sense of humour/imagination/style

No, actually it wouldn't appeal to the small minority of people in Britain who have an IQ greater than their shoe size.
I think the forthcoming Euro referendum should include the following questions:-
1) Do you watch any soap operas?
2) Did you enjoy 'Pop Idol'?
3) Should Britain adopt the Euro as it's currency?
Then if the answers to either of the first two questions are in the affirmative (that means yes by the way - got to clarify it for the Pop Idol generation!!) the answer to the third question should be ignored as the person answering is obviously too stupid to understand the implications of the Euro and all that comes with it.
Regards,
tiggers.

Mmm, unless I have the worlds largest ever feet my IQ is most definately larger than my shoe size.Infact, technically according to Mensa I am a genius, I did however enjoy Pop Idol. Perhaps your theory is the wrong way round, I guess that makes me too dangerous to have a vote.
And using that same principle, Prof Steven Hawkins should be banned from even chossing which clothes he wears.
Oh well got to go now, my mums going to teach me how to use the phone today.

Astraboy, I'll fight you for the right to pull the trigger
Let's face, 90% of TV is utter, utter TOSH!

As far as the technology is concerned BT often send out requests to the other operators (NTL, Telewest etc.) asking them to restrict the number of calls going into the BT network to 1 call every 2 seconds or something from each exchange. They do it for any kind of phone voting thing. As to the 5k lines for 1 number and 23k for the other, I don't believe that at all. It would have been both numbers going to a route with 28k channels with announcements sat on the end. If everyone called one number, then the other won't get through. All people had to do was set their PC modem to 'powerdial' the number of their choice 50 times!
PS, 28k lines is a LOT of lines to equip just for a few nights!

I just had another thought ...
All the fanatics are complaining because they couldn't get through 50 or sixty times. Surey to get an accurate "vote" you should only really get one vote anyway?
So, did anyone not get through at least once?
What I'm saying is, I'm pretty sure all these teenie voters will only buy one copy of the CD and not one per every vote they made.
I'm only going to buy one copy

My original post was purely to stir things and I didn't think before I submitted :-)
Yes - if lines were not allocated, then fair enough.
I don't care really - just seemed interesting.
So - in reality then, someone somewhere mucked up - ie, if there were not enough lines in TOTAL, then the result was not a true result as it depended on call routing etc as to who got through. I'm always amazed by these televotes - they had a indication of voting interest the week before, so why not allocate FAR TOO MANY lines? Or is cost a huge issue? Surely all concerned would have made MORE money if more lines had been in place......

If they allocated more lines the whole telephone infrastructure of the country would suffer ! As it was certain areas lost their phone service, including Bedford where the Ambulance service lost its emergency system and had to rely on 2 way radios for everything !
NTL system also suffered a major hit, and several of their areas were knocked off completely as well !

Yes, but some people will have re-dialled when they couldn't get through, and some others will have voted for Will 17 times
Also, you'll find that most of the revenue from the calls goes to the people who produce Pop Idols. It costs BT a fair bit to tie up most of the PSTN at the same time, introduce gapping on all (800) local exchanges, etc.
