Also, apparently you can trick the New Age ECU into fast learning (it allegedly gains you 10-20bhp in the process)...

Fast learning procedure (Newage WRX)
  1. With the car fully warmed up, reset the ECU.
  2. Drive to a nice open road without traffic. Don’t go on boost until you get there. Put the car into gear (3rd gear works the best) bring the revs up to 2600rpm.
  3. Push the accelerator pedal down slightly so boost stays around 2–4psi (~0.2 bar). You will need to MAINTAIN 2500rpm and 2–5psi for approx 5 seconds. You can do this by left-foot braking gently as to prevent acceleration. During these few seconds, the advance multiplier (which you can’t see so you’ll have to trust me) will go from 8, to 12 and then to 16. Works like a charm. And on our reset or reflashed ECU, is worth an immediate 10–20 BHP.

Brilliant Joz, thanks for that, im pretty sure ive got some OBDII connection leads about somewhere. I will fill the tank with V-Power tomorrow and hopefully be able to do the reset within 20 or so miles after filling up.

Will let you know how it feels.

Any ideas on the bhp expected after doing the mods?

Ahh, just read your fast learning post, unfortunately the car doesnt have a boost gauge, so not sure how to give this one a go?

Don't worry about the learning trick - just drive as you normally would after the 2nd tankfull/reset.

Yeah, forgot to answer that. It largely depends on what boost you get it mapped at. The limiting factor will be your MAP sensor (I don't know what these are rated at) - but I'm sure they're rated high enough for it to mapped at 1.1bar, or maybe 1.35bar.

I'd expect to expertly remap a a full decatted system and decent panel filter (Apexi, Green, K&N) at 1.1bar, then this should net you in the region 35-45bhp maybe a more i.e. 250-60bhp... Therefore, similar to Prodrive's optimism for their WRX PPP, lol.

i'd expect with a full decat system and a remap on a (otherwise standard) WRX PPP to see somewhere around the 280bhp mark?

Get some VPower in it, i thought something wasn't right

Yeh, lol, never even thought of the fuel being inadequate. Looking forward to getting it sorted and back on the rollers

Agreed - some tuners also recommend you change the fuel pump at the same time if it's a higher mileage model and you're going full decat with a remap.

Panel filter - up to you. K&N are known all over the world; there's also Green and many others. But get that cone filter out out of the engine bay it won't be helping you at all.

As for unleaded - the manual I have says to only run the car on super so I'm surprised the previous owner hasn't done that - but then again a lot of people don't know any better.... (and who reads the manual anyway ).

Good luck with it
