Dominic

I sincerely hope that you find what I'm about to say wrong.

I've just tried to trade my 17 month old P1 in. It cost 36k (lots of Prodrive extras) new and I've been offered between 15 & 18K for it.

If you want a rule of thumb, half what you paid for it.

As I said, hope you can do better. Needless to day, I was seriously offended by the offers (more than one dealer).

Be prepared for them to tell you that in the light of the new STi being introduced, the residual prices for the older model have dropped like a stone.

Regards
Kurt

Mr Data - you are bang on-roughly half is about par for the course - I picked up a MY00 last October with driving enhancement package,a/c and sunroof for £13K - exactly half what the new price was £26K with all extras

I think some of these dealers are well out of order.
They want to make four to five grand on every car they sell.
They should realise that the climate has changed and be fairer to their loyal customers. I am currently looking for a new scooby but would never go near a dealer in a millon years. I rather buy privately any day especially if the car had the balance of warranty.
Cheers Jay.
PS If anyone knows of a MY99/00 or RB5 for under 12 grand let me know

MrData is totally correct. I tried to sell my Impreza to 5 dealers (3 Subaru, 1 MINI and 1 private Subaru trader ) and out of those 2 of them couldn't even be bothered to phone me back (including the dealer where I get the car serviced). In the end I sold the car to a Subaru dealer 70 miles away as they were the only ones who would even look at the car let alone offer me a price for it.

This was for an immaculate MY00 with 17K on the clock. All I kept hearing was "can't even get people to look at a car without aircon". It got to the stage where we were haggling over the odd £50 and the dealer just shook his head, smiled and refused. When I said £50 makes no difference to you he replied "it does, it really does". He also told me that he would have to put aircon on so that would cut into his profit

Anyway few days later the car was up for £3800 more than he gave me for it and he hadn't even put air con on it. I have to say that I think he will struggle to sell it for that price and nearly 3 weeks on he still has it but he will still easily make over 3K out of it.

It's all very well reading all the price guides and listening to people on here telling you what they think it's worth but it means absolutely nothing until you go to sell. Best advice is to look at a similar car on a dealers forecourt and knock 3.5K - 4K off the price, that is what he will offer for the car (supposing he even wants it that is).

Kim, he might get 19 K for it !

Dom, you may only get 13 K for it !

More seriously though ... unless keeping it running costs you too much, KEEP the car. It is still one of the better Imprezas out there, and you will never find anything like it again for under 20K.

Market is not good now, so you might get more out of it waiting a year (economy hopefully going up) than if you sell now.

Keep it !

Unhappy

Beastie,

But then again you only have to take a look in the for sale section of this website to see how desperate people are to get shot of cars at the moment. When I first started looking at this website the for sale section was mainly for items with the occasional car thrown in. Now it looks like every other ad is a late model Impreza for sale at a giweaway price. The dealer knew that if you wanted rid of it bad enough you would have accepted it.

If it's any consolation its not just Imprezas even Audi TT values are falling through the floor at the moment. Take a look on www.tt-forum.co.uk if you need more proof.

Oh and if you seriously think you are going to get 2 grand more for it because Burns is current world champion then you live in a fantasy world I am afraid.
