wow, what a fascinating site
didn't know there was such sites around.
i've always been strangely interested in old, abandoned buildings and houses, must be the kid in me thinking there's buried treasure to be found![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
my aunty lives round the corner from the erith swimming pool and i've always wondered what the inside looks like now, unfortunately the reality is it's fooked
shame, i spent many fun times there as a kid.
anyways, enough waffling, thanks for the un-intended link

A real waste of what would be a fantastic house if lived in.

Interesting thread. Lots of good posts. Thanks for the 28 days later shout.
Check out Urban Exploration / Exploration Urbaine - Online since 1998! for some more of this kind of thing. Particularly the New Jersey State Hospital for the Insane.
And to think i moan about the NHS

It's basically a site full of "Urban Explorers" or "Urbexers" for short. They go to various sites that are no longer used, etc... and basically explore them. They are not there to steal anything/damage the properties and normally they just go to take various photos. I've found out about all kinds of stuff near to me that I never knew existed!!
You should pop over and take a look!

I love all the urban exploration stuff. ![Cool](images/smilies/cool.gif)
I was fortunate in my old role at my company that I got to visit lot's of old deserted places due for renovation or for demolition.
I visited old military sites, office blocks, factories, cinemas, swimming pools/leisure centres, hospitals (really freaky that one!
) Loved it, could spend all day there investigating.

Pripyat (Chernobyl) must be an awesome experience.
Although from what I have seen/heard a lot of looting has gone on over the years so I think the full experience of the sudden desertion may be watered down a bit compared to say a couple of years after the disaster.
