Gibraltar was always a bit of a frightener to land on for your first time. The beginning of the runway out at sea had a vertical concrete lip probably about 10 feet high which made you feel a bit uneasy on the last bit of the approach. The runway was uphill to the centre and downhill after that where the public road crossed it. The visual effect made the runway look very short after landing so it made you stand on the brakes until you got to the top of the hill and you saw you still had about half the runway left to stop in! Led to a few sets of smoking brakes

The RAF in its true logic used to say that you were not allowed to land at Gibraltar unless you had landed there before!

I have to deal with some of that 'logic' over here too sometimes!
