For me the definition of a rock band has to be AC/DC - they have it all, the songs, the history, the tragedy, the performances, the identity and the absolute sense of what a rock band should be about.

I'd just like to add ACDC are not my favourite band of all time but I defy anyone not to tap their foot and wiggle their *** to anything from that era!

This is all a joke, right? The tediously moronic boom... dish, boom... dish drumbeat and the bass staying on one note forever until someone nudges him into the chorus?

They make me turn the radio to another station when (thankfully, infrequently) played. Shouty cack to me.

Couldn't name one of their songs and always hated them!

Consider yourself defied.....

Do you think Angus ever regrets wearing the school cap and shorts 30 years ago? He now has to do it for every performance. PMSL!

I adore INXS. Have every single thing they have ever done plus loaded all into my 'puter. In fact, am listening to (Disappear) as we virtually speak. I just never thought of them as a "Rock Band"

Actually, the best 'rock' band I have seen live is.........

Supergrass.

Technically brilliant, and with a sound many more popular bands can't get near.

Maybe not rock, but they do rock and I'd recommend them to anyone.

I think that one is on a lot of people's guilty pleasure top 5

Not the best rock band imo though.

As a technical marvel, lamb of god are pretty amazing but that's very very metal though.

I think I would have to agree with Led Zep, very influential but also a suprisingly timeless sound. ACDC are far more catchy though if that's how you want to rate them.

I have no favorite rock band just tunes

YouTube - The Who - Baba O'riley (live Keith Moon)
YouTube - AC/DC - Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
YouTube - Kiss - Beth - Live
YouTube - Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own Way - Dance Tour '97
YouTube - Gary Moore with Phil Lynott - Parisienne Walkways (live)

5 of my all time tracks featuring possibly the greatest drummer and the greatest guitarist of all times (that should kick off a good debate )

Deep Purple as we're talking Rock bands. From the same era Sabbath, Led Zep, Hendrix, Judas priest etc. They were all real rock not like a lot of the soft cr*p bands that are more worried about their Perrier or hair conditioner being in the hotel room.

Bands of today probably have to go with the Chilli's or Foo Fighters.

LOL, well we are talking about a rock band here and the whole essence of rock bands is all bit of joke really, the imagery, the posing with guitars, the leather, the denim, the long hair, the drink, the drugs, the whole 'our PA is louder than yours' thing..... etc. all very Spinal Tap and hence I thiught the thread was asking about the best rock band and given those almost self parodying set of parameters I think AC/DC are up there.

Not even my preferred genre of music, but we won't go there as I am sure it won't meet with UB's eclectic tastes and I may get infracted
