you don't have to pay dd , we get a bill every quarter about £180 for gas and electric and have 28 days to pay 5 mins online banking done!

That'll be best for you, mother in law pays about £120 a month direct debit she's in credit but still lot more than I pay

Just looking on the S.E. website.

I do fancy the D/D monthly option. Only thing is in the summer months, I don't use the heating and save the money from extra gas tokens etc. but if I'm on a D/D I would be getting overcharged (which I know I would get back), but I can't afford this option. With leccy, I use about the same all year round - approx. £15 a week so £60 a month.

If I can save money, I'll definitely be looking into it. Swap over from btitish gas very soon I believe.

£35 goes straight on electricity the rest to feed my 2 kids that I get 2 days a week.

I only have electricity in the flat, a month I pay £42.00 direct debit, so if you are paying £15.00 a week then you may end up saving money in the long term.

Unfortunatley, he probably ignored it.

We've tried helping before, but it's just not enough.

A cash donation is something that hasn't been tried. Do you want to be the one start that idea?

I'll kick it off with 5p.

CoB, you know your courting this sort of reply.

Bit harsh. Was asking a simple question - no moaning (for a change)

Pm me for my address details. Good to see you back anyways fella
I do actually like your input.

Anyways, re. Antc's post. About sending the readings off (sorry missed the post). Is that on a quarterly basis? Or do you know if it can be done monthly?
the problem is currently it's convenient to pay weekly, as I know what I'm spending. But if it's a monthly or quarterly thing, the tempation is there to either not put so much aside every week, or use more electric/gas than I maybe would have previously. What do people on here generally do to stop this happening, as I'm definitely all for saving a few ££ on my bills, despite the ^^ comment suggesting otherwise

As mentioned earlier, missed your post. Answer the points I asked about and it would be appreciated

Also, who do you/mother use

basically, it's to do with how you manage your income/expenditure, and what your priotrities are. If you watch what your earning and outgoing, you can make sure that you always have money for your DDs you have set for paying utilities bills. DDs can be set for the dates of your choice, as you may know. You can even check your account regularly on line these days. Just plan ahead for other expenses than your necessary bills, and be aware that your bills are your priorities. Be as careful as always about your energy consumption, don't let the good habits slip away

But at the moment if it's convenient to keep paying on the pre-payment meter, just leave it as it is, for now. When things are a bit more stable your end, get it sorted to save some money on your energy bills.

3500 sq ft house - DD is 45 quid a month. I have two kids who can't turn off switches. 15 quid a week is expensive unless that includes heating???

btw - I am a self employed mortgage advisor - I imagine that you would struggle to find a less lucrative form of income if you don't count estate agents. Credit crunch being what it is I can't make enough money as a mortgage advisor to keep me in the manner to which I am accustomed, so I have a sideline as a handyman. 150 quid a day for doing **** work, but working weekends (Fri, Sat and Sun) boosts my income by 1800 a month, which just about pays the mortgage. Unemployment is a voluntary state for the terminally lazy.

Have to agree to a degree, the likes of Asda/McDonalds/tesco etc etc are always recruiting, this although not perfect by any stretch of the imagination is a better option for me than unemployment.

she's uses eon I think I think you can do it monthly, our electric usage is quite high as the tv and amp is on all the time but we get in the habit of turning the plugs off, but you can buy or get free a usage thing that you plug into your plugs and tells you how much your using and total used so you can keep a eye on it.

We've just signed upto British gas fixed deal till 2010

Same here, as we've started switching lights etc. off in tooms we don't use.

I managed to do a fortnightly shop for the Mrs and I yesterday for £70, £10 under what we budget for (smart price everything basically), so the tenner saved is going to be invested in a halogen heater today for me in my drawing room. This will at least let me have the ability to sit and do my commission stuff if I can't find any work, part or full time.

Had another load of "sorry, unsuccessful" replies back from jobs this week, but at least my boilers gonna get fixed

Think what I may do re. Southern Electric is call them when the switch over from B/G has gone through. See if they charge for going from P/P to monthly D/D. If I have to watch what I spend a little more closely, but make ££ savings - it's a no brainer surely.

Thanks for the advice guys, appreciate it.
