you already told them so you will have to declare an accident every renewal anyway even if you don't claim its a **** but they got a record of it now that alone will put ur premium up as ive reciently found out insurance companys never loose.
My Mrs stacked my sti 2 weeks ago i need to put some pics up wrote it off and im still arguing with the insurance company there 1st offer was horrendous

an insurer would not repair that car imho, 1998? worth £3000-£4000?
get them to cat d the car and ask for a cash in lieu offer so you can keep the salvage and have it repaired yourself. with the money left you can put it towards a 1999 spec front end and keep some for next years increase in premium

You be suprised mate. Rememebr last year when my loverly red classic got bashed into on the drivers side...
Parts needed were...
Drivers wing
Drivers door
Wheel refurb
Lots of spray work
Couple other tit bits, but the bill to "his" insurers was £2000.
Genuine Subaru parts are bloody expensive and anyone who knows anything about insurers will agree you have to use genuine parts...

i did the exact same thing 2 years ago to my typeR and it was valued a heck of a lot more than the op's.they wanted to write it off as COB said due to subaru origional parts prices,i paid the damage myself and was still over 2 grand, all the silly little bits add up,now im trying to sell i cant get rid of the thing as it is damaged/repaired,so be aware of that when you decide, personally if i was doing it again id take the loss and let them write it off

Whether all inaurers do this, I'll concede that, but mine did, so can only go off personal experience.
I presume you work in either insurance and/or the bosywork trade, as a lot of your posts seem to be correnting people telling them they're wrong
Wait a minute, are you an MP?

mate aint read all the replys but a imported classic STI will be WROTE OFF, refuse to let them take the car as once they have it they send it to a " free storage facility" till you decide,, then YOU have to pay to get it back THAT IF THEY LET YOU
the price of the bumper and bonnet from subaru aswell as the labour and the rad will come to half the value of the car,,, so they will write it off and pay yyou out and the storage place ( or otherwiise known as a salvage yard) will sell the car on
ALSO if the cars been involved in a accident before and claimed they it CANT be put back on the road aswell as you will get half the value of the car if it had been wrote off
IMO for the price you pay on insurance,,,,, you would be better off sourcing the parts, maybe a carbon bonnet ect and lick ya lips,,, classic STI's aont worth the actual insurance we pay for them these days tbh,,,,,, and i pay 1200 quid a year for mine but they are worth around 3 to 3500k

mate i WORK as a partsman, selling pattern parts and ALSO used to work at a few main dealers,,,, and a guy i train with in the gym is a claims engineer for norwich union,,,,,, pattern parts are NOT used, its not the ORIGINAL spec and also can cause lead time issues for the bodyshop,, time is money and all that
the only time they will be used is if they aint available anymore,,,,, block excemption rules are about warranty claims btw,,,,, its cause main dealers where refusing warrantys unless genuine parts with a franchise dealer where used,,,,,, yet the parts the dealers used where made but hengst/textar/ate/bosch ect ect ect ect,,,,,, as they dont actually make much stuff but get it made for them these days
as said i am a partsman by trade and not just a counter sales bloke ( i make fetch the coffee too )

yes but its down to convinience from the bodyshop, time is money
ordering from a main dealer they will get any clips ect ect ect also ordered that they may need,,,,,, pattern wont all be available meaning they will STILL have to call up a main dealer to order the smaller parts taking 2 calls,,,,,, waiting on 2 deliverys and then theres a chance the pattern parts aint correct,,,,, vw toureg for example on 2007 changed the wings ect for a facelift,,,, look the same to look at but are 2 ins shorter and the bumper longer
theres aniother deliver from the main dealer AFTER ordering from a pattern parts place
as said i sell car parts for a living and see what happens with bad cross referencing or just ****e cataloging,,,,,,,, as i have to deal with it these days !!!
to summmerise scoobie classic STI is gonna be a write off, insurance will go up and you will be out of pocket,,,if your gonna keep the car then fix it IMO
