Family is number 1 mate, talk to your missus and see what she wants. It's a difficult decision as it is a lovely car, but it is just a car and could be replaced in the future, especially if you move. Have a proper think about the best option and don't do anything rash. Security could be a real deterant though. What about a dog? I think ours would scare of most with his bark, & he is a big 'un!
Good luck with whatever you decide

thanks mate, my secrity will be steped up if i am to keep the car,but like you say ill speak to the missus and ill let her decide

What is required is the old southern states of the USA "castle law". Someone breaks into your house, they are shot dead, sheriff turns up ascertains the circumstances and carts the stiff off, no more problem.
As explained to me by my wife's 78y old uncle as he showed me the loaded .32 he kept under his pillow.

This sort of thing is happening far more often than people think, it's just that you will not get to hear about it unless it's a friend or family or you. My next door neighbour didn't realise the guy 4 doors down had his door kicked in a few months ago for his CTR.

I have a friend who is a DI in the met police and he told me the best way to stop someone bashing you door down is to have a good solid wood door and frame and have it so it open's outwards. Alot of people on the wrong side of the law do this to stop the old bill bashing there doors down with there big red key's lol, and is very effective at stopping them too so he say's.

The unfortunate thing in this life is, there are scum out there who will take whatever they can, regardless of value, in many cases. It shouldn't stop us having decent stuff, we work for, but there's always a risk.
I understand, the risk may not be worth taking when it comes to safety, over possessions, but that is something you need to give real consideration to. Beefing up security is no bad thing, regardless. It could well have been random chancers, but it's certainly worth doing the most you can, to protect your family/property just in case.

Sorry to hear what happened mate, I know how it feels. I live in Bradford and used to own an Evo 5 and mr2 turbo back in 2000. Was sat at home around 6pm broad daylight when 4 ***** tried to break into the toyota outside in order to move it out of the way as it was parked in front of a locked garage in which the evo was sat! Both cars were alarmed and had disk locks too plus had cctv camera pointing right down at the drive. Stupid *******s were trying that in broad daylight! Was at home with my uncles and mates so ran out and managed to get hold of one whilst the rest darted off a corrolla. The lad we grabbed was 16! and started bawling as soon as we dragged him round the back of the house for a beating. Worse thing is the cops came took him away and soon after came back to question us all because we gave the little **** a hidding!! It's scary what people do to get what they want and this kind of thing makes you think twice about owning such cars expecially when you have a family. I soon sold the evo as i knew it was just a matter of time before some one else would try it or come back for to dish out some payback. If the law in this country grew some ***** and implemented harsh penalties we wouldn't have this sort of thing happening!
Anyway mate goodluck in what ever you decide to do and all the best.

8years! they would be lucky to get 2 mate! the penalties for criminals in this country are comical...thats why so many risk getting caught and so many re-offend over and over.

kicking someones door in when there in bed with there 2 year old child will be taken as a violent crime and they WILL be taken off the streets
a mate of mine was given 5 years for waving a air gun in a shop keepers face who gave him the wrong change and refused to give the cash back
he was dine for attempted robbery with a firearm, even though it was just a ****ing air gun AND the bloke did **** him over in the first place

oh and another mate got give 2 years for smacking a bloke in the face and fracturing hes cheek bone, the bloke was getting involved with a row my mate was having with hes brother,,, just a random sticking hes nose in where it wasnt needed
he only hit him once too,,, just done it infront of 2 coppers who was attending the argument to sort it out
just 1 punch to the face of a bloke who was getting involved as my mate was pissed off about something,, wasnt anything vindictive about it either just too much tension and the other bloke added to the fire

I wouldn't dispute that. On the note of being broken into, it wasn't merely sneaking in. We were broken into, between 5 and 6pm at night, smashed our back door in to gain entry. I would imagine that caused a fair bit of noise, but as per usual, when something really happens, nobody sees/hears anything. Thankfully we weren't in.

Does sound as if they had stolen the Escort thinking it was a Cossie and then jumped at your car. Maybe had something lined up for later that night which needed a fast car ?
Had my STi stolen last year, came in the house at night, found the car gone in the morning. My neighbour had a break in last week and the police think its the same gang after his Focus ST (alarm went off and they ran).
The police advised him, if you have a garage, put your car in it.

Feel for you mate, can't believe the audicity of the B*****S trying it so early. Had a very similar experiece a few months ago, thought mine was early at midnight. Heard a lound banging coming from downstairs so jumped up and flew downstairs (with my ornamental Samurai Sword). Was confronted with a smashed window in my back door which is big enough to crawl through. Even used a stone flag from my own garden to smash it. Discovered broken window into my basement/garage aswell, although not big enough to get through and you can't see the car from there. Never saw anybody but just made me realise everybody is vulnerable no matter where you live.
Must have been complete f**in amateurs and opportunists but that was my cue to beef up security. Even had a big scary looking dog in back garden for a couple of months after (although it was soft as F in reality).
As previously mentioned the law is ridiculous in this country and I dont think it is an overstatement to say the criminals have more rights than the victims. god knows what would have happened if I had confronted somebody with said sword. I really dont see the benefits of CCTV as criminals will always have faces covered and images in dark will be of poor quality unless using expensive equipment.

When I lived with my parents I had 2 cars nicked ( No House break in ) and my Dad also had an attempted break in for his Golf Vr6.
The best security we ever got was a German Shepard !!
She slept in the front room and heard everything - We were open woken with load barks and when we got up there were no signs of anyone as obviously there were disturbed. In the 10 years we had her we had absolutely nothing nicked or attempted theft.
Also I could sleep safe in the Knowledge that if any scum were to attempt a break in She would lay her life on the line to protect us.

My first question is who has told you these figures? Because i'd be making a call to plod and telling them that you know someone involved! And secondly the guys that can strip a car in half an hour need a proper job working for SWRT and they might get more than £333 granted not for half an hour though.
Simpsons !
Simpsons !
When they eventually came after I chased off 4 thugs who were about to take 3 BMWs and a Merc from my street at 3 A.M. one morning, the traffic plod told me the would have got £500 a car and each of them would have given £100 to their getaway driver. Obviously in the few years that have passed since that little excitement, they now get more so its very easy money - and its tax free!

Now, try to grab those keys and undo the cabinet, grab the gun, grab the cartridges and load the gun before the door gives up.......all whilst shaking wit adrenalin.
If you manage it......good luck to you. The corrupt legal system with go to town on you for daring to defend yourself.

crimes of a violent nature are not treated the same, agrivated robbery is trated very serious compared to robery
