Things must be bad if a "discussion" on SNet ends in a civilised manner!
My house is an ex-MOD semi which I'm sure would appear "pokey" or even pikey to some on here. It will do me and mine and I've spent a small fortune (to me anyway) in my loft building my railway and scalextric track so personally I ain't going anywhere soon.
I spent lunchtime looking for a decent loan to buy a V5 Type R as my mortgage is now £250 a month.
If the country requires reckless spending who am I to argue?

If you've not seen today's inflation report, then you'll hear about it on the news this evening. In a word, the UK economy is fooked. Why it took the Bank of England (who were still actively considering rate hikes not six months ago), is anyone's guess. They're chasing a runaway train now. But you might see some more rate cutting in December, should that be of consequence to you.
Bring it on.If the country is in a bad way and it means more cuts then I will live with that.
Over the last couple of years this government has taken more and more off us,along with the utility companies, banks, and any other ****** who chose to.
Does nobody see that may be the reason everyone is now struggling. We have been raped and pillaged and this is the consequence, people have no more to give.
Long may the country be fooked. It suits me fine !!!!!
Rather selfish I know .

btw - I would be interested to know who said that cutting interest rates is like farting at thunder. Was it someone who should know what they are talking about. I think it would be good to read about their alternative solutions as well

5 acres, this view from our bedroom, 5 bedrooms, no houses visible from anywhere on the land, 2 miles from Truro (a city, albeit a tiny one) almost enough saved up to buy it outright...
And from the top of the garden (which takes 2 hours to mow/strim - this is before I sorted out the grass).
It's a struggle to find anywhere nicer at any price...
The cutting interest rates comment was made by someone I know worth about £10 million.

FAO fast bloke you still have not explained why you think I made my figures up. I would very much like to know as I definitely did not make anything up.

Finite. Definite. Definitely.
Over half a million new jobless in the USA last week (although that will be offset by people finding work) - that is an awful lot of people.

Spent many hours sorting the garden from almost all brambles and bare mud to a decent half(ish) acre of grass ("lawn" would be a bit too much for what I've managed to grow!) using a hardcore strimmer/brushcutter, grass seed and a very heavy duty mower. Also rescued 4 apple trees from bramble death (they were totally buried) and scratched ourselves to pieces - but all worth it. Rare to get on so well with a landlord - rather lucky.

Errrmmm I don't think so njk. You seem very pleased with yourself that mortgage/loan companies have allowed you to run up huge debts, like it's some kind of boast to have s £500k mortgage and £100k on car loans (as an example). Well I find it about as impressive as a City Rover.
You won't be able to get loaned up like that because it's been realised that it's STUPID.
I'm sure many of us could now have a new 911 and a RR on the drive and live in a near million quid house (a year ago we could had we chosen to) thanks to silly loan practises of the past but we have half a brain and choose to spend within our means and properly SAVE for stuff, not get out a 10x salary loan. And luckily it's now not possible anyway.
Why do you think those of us without big loans (a mortgage IS a loan) are jealous?! You've said it several times now so justify it.

Depending on what deal you have, £1900 a month would be the payment for something between 300 and 350k, so I took 325 as the middle ground
The capital element of a 325k repayment mortgage over 25 years would be roughly 600 quid a month. If you are paying 1900 now on repayment, then the payment would immeditely drop by £600 switching to interest only. The rate cut would save you another £400, so you would save a grand a month.
p.s. - Just read the second post - figures are broadly the same for 340k. Maybe I am misunderstanding your post
