I would say most people on here, who have contact with you, would rather you didn't just leave. You joked, some didn't take it that way, just move on.
It's not the first time, and it won't be the last, that a thread has got out of hand, which was started without malice.
Everybody differs on what is funny/offensive, or where the line should be drawn. Some add to problems. This is life.
God, if we can't try and get by on a forum, I really worry for 'real' life.

The difference is that i don't think someone deserves to possibly lose their job for a throw-away comment, be it racist or not.
Discussing things on the internet is one thing, setting someone up to lose their job and not be able to support their family is completely different.

FFS, has this not gone far enough? We now have people wanting to leave the forum, people offended, and people who have seen at least some of the comments in the manner they were intended, a joke, not offence, regardless of bad taste.
There is a huge difference between setting out to hurt the feelings of others, and a bad taste joke.
Apologies have been made, people offended have settled, just the rest, calm down a bit.

Yes as previously said as a child growing up been Black, Ginger, Fat etc is a pain when younger but you learn to deal with it like everyone else. The whole racist thing is blown out of proportion.

Maybe not, judging by the response and offence taken by the only Black/mixed race guy on the thread....who was then shouted down and told that he was wrong to be offended - further perpetuating and reinfocring the racism already shown.
