I thought about that, but I believe they differ in that RTM's are (or should be) there for posts that merit significant editing or deletion - ****, spam, serious verbal abuse, etc, etc,
Whereas infractions are (or should be) more a slap on the wrist for users which can result in a ban if the poster continues to cross the line. so many strikes and your out, rather than the RTM system for posts that require urgent moderator intervention.
Of course, where that line is drawn is subjective, hence the requirement to have someone who fully understands the terms and conditions to rubber stamp the infraction.
Just throwing some more thoughts in

I simply fail to see what your post rating "statement" there is supposed to achieve, Devil's Advocate. Like infractions, i think it's precisely that sort of anonymous judgment which has led people to avoid this place these days. Do you not see it the same way??

Tel its pathetic, make a couple off topic posts and get neg'd for it, all the more reason to leave it to the mods, if any.

Arguably, given enough mods and enough time, but mods can't read every thread, let alone every post.
If you then rely on the RTM function to notify the moderators, there exists the potential to overburden the RTM function, meaning important stuff, as mentioned above, could get missed.
Especially now as Scoobynet has a culture of "self policing" and not all of it in a good way.
I don't know the answer, only time will tell.

Playing devils advocate here (in the true sense of the word, not a Scoobynet poster), was there any purpose or point whatsoever to your "swearer" post though?
Other than to post for the sake of it? On a point which only muppet posters understand?
Which is fine in muppets but is out of context here and, I would suggest, is likely to reinforce the need for post ratings rather than the other way around as you have alluded to?

Devildog i can see both sides of the coin, with regards to my "swearer" post, but it hardly took the thread off topic, yes it was a muppet joke, but the point is, ignore it, its harmless enough, or are posts in NSR devoid of any humour?

This seems to have turned into a topic about the infraction system now. Are there no other issues with the forum you would like to discuss or are you all pretty happy once the forum bugs are sorted out?

I just don't agree mate (whether or not i would, as it were). It's not a thread about a mass murder or something, it's a relatively lightweight discussion. I could find you lots of threads in NSR which have been trivialised beyond what i think is appropriate, but is an anonymous "I judge you" system the answer? No, i think a chill pill is probably the better way to go, unless it's blatanly to the detriment of the thread.

If its not reported then it doesn't need a possible infraction

We didn't like the way he ran the place, like a lot of other people i'm guessing. I don't think any of the central messages in this thread have been lost on account of a few flippant posts. In fact as i mentioned, i think it highlights what had become a major irritation for many people - being "judged" by people hidden behind a computer screen. In SN's heyday, if you wanted to say something, you said it, not ticked a little bloody box pink or green. The RTM function is there, it just needs to be supported in the right way.

Excuse me!!!
I made a polite apology to DD. Even Stu has been making the odd light hearted remark as most people have.
This has been a very interesting and entertaining thread. All of which has helped iron out quite a few problems. Even with the odd bit of banter thrown in

Because people know each other, and just like in any real-life conversation, people throw in the occasional aside. I really don't see the problem with it unless the thread becomes a trivial ping pong lasting more than a few posts (again as per quite a few previous NSR threads i could point you to). What does ticking a box pink do? Apart from make you feel self-righteous? If a thread deviates too much, RTM it, let the mods decide.

Dump the Infraction system and you will have a happier Forum - it really is that simple!
