"Diablo" would never have put it so politely
"**** off back to muppets" would have been "his" retort
DD is a more mellow version who has seen things very differently from this side of the fence.
My post was intended to create constructive debate - I'm not saying that I object to ronjeramy's post. There has been some good input to this thread, which hopefully will result in change for the better :Thumb:

There is no solution but to take this place as only I and it appears FP do and that's to turn up when it suits and post when it suits, no matter who or what runs/controls the shop. Its called the 'just not fecking important' approach.

Interesting that 80% of posters (voters) think that SN isn't any better since the IB buy out, even after the amazingly fantastic search fix

Though my point was had you been given the power you never got, which then resulted in you standing down from being a moderator, you'd have simply infracted them instead.

It is a good laugh sometimes with some good people, but it is only a posting site. The odd ******* has to be expected and it can make it even funnier.
At the end of the day it's a platform for advertisers to sell more 'stuff', and the site's owners to make more cash. Well, it is now
I voted NO because it's less fun than it was and people seem scared to post stuff that wouldn't have got a second look a bit back - but they can now be banned for it.

A moderator without an infraction system on a site of this size would be like a Gun with only one bullet... A moderator requires the power to fire warning shots, that way they can keep the masses in check in a reasonable manner. Infractions are the way to do this IMO.

Well: an empowered moderator is what Ive been arguing for, so I cant disagree.
A user-controlled infraction system would be (is) a disaster though: as is the post rating system.

So.............let me get this straight.
You can't be bothered to appoint any more moderators, (I know someone who offered about a year ago), so you want the site to self-moderate? And to do so at the whim of every nutter on here?
Great idea, NOW can you see why people voted "no"?

Just ban all thick people and that'll leave 5% of the members to have a right hoot.

The peurile post rating on this thread and particularly here goes to show how abused and pointless it is. As admin can see who applied what ratings too it will also help you to decide who to ignore.

These decisions are all down to the new Administrator to work out with the wenbteam along with input from your good selves.

The reason I started this thread was to get people to vote with their voices in one place, and mostly with regard to the problems that had been identified in the bugs forum, as little seemed to be happening, and certainly no visibility from IB
It wasn't meant to turn into a thread about how good or bad the infraction system is, or users constantly requesting permanent bans to be lifted (there is a reason why those bans are in force and it wasnt just because of one person (Simon), or whether Simon was a good Webmaster/Admin of the site
My own personal views where that since the sale, other than Webbie patrolling the infraction (sorry I meant Policy) forum there seemed to be no input from IB
One very good thing (again for me personally) that has come out of this thread is that IB have come forward in a very positive and timely manner and discussed the issues with the community with a common goal of moving things forward, and in the process fixed very quickly some of the problems reported in the bugs forum
I believe that the infraction system should stay (but with tweaks) and there should also be more active moderation, and not just Puff and Scoobychick, who don't just moderate they play a part in the community and interact with us mere plebs too
Well done to Stu for taking time out to listen and speak to us all regarding the issues, it is appreciated

Sounds like a good idea in principle Stu, but poor, biased moderation would leave it as open to abuse as the current system. So eventually appointing a new moderating team would be a good thing IMHO. Also, give the banned users their IDs back and let the site re-birth begin.

RE banned users; since this is a new start for SN then I'd have to agree to a point. If they then act up(don't know why many were hit with perma-bans), then just ban em again. Hell look how many second chances Joey Barton and Pete have had.
I've said it before, I'll say it again. Moderator's have to be active, not just logging on for the sake of it;(If that is indeed the case, seems like it to me.) actually being part of the "community".
FAO GC8;
Southerner? Mackems are southerners to me. At least you know where Wallsend is, part-time Northerner then?
