I wasn't going to, but Sal has always said the same. So let's hope it does get looked at and the perpetrator (sp) given his just deserts

Ive appealed against several unjust infractions and only had the one repealed. Many on this account were given by the webmaster along with a tirade of unjustifiable insults. On my main account I was infracted repeatedly for criticising a very poor company who, surprisingly, became authorised advertisers a few days later. Draw your own conclusions.

I am not a paying member, so I don't know how valued my opinion will be. Anyhow, I will stick my two pences in.

If the infraction system is abolished, and replaced with unbiased and proactive moderatorship, that should really help with the current state. Infraction system has factually proven itself to be uneffective and troublesome on millions of occasions. Keeping the infraction system, and having to moderate it again is double handling IMO. Not all the infraction issuers are so clued up about when, and where to sting someone. Instead of controlling the abuse, Infraction system itself has become a system to abuse others; causing misunderstandings among people. Your good team of moderators should be able to actively sort the trolling and abuse issues on RTMing, I would like to think. Hope the new Admin investigates the problems caused by this infraction system/relevance of it's continuity, and take necessary measures- in favour of Scoobynet's popularity and posters'/members' welfare.

Other than that, best wishes

What would we all talk about if the infraction system was got rid of?

It's a constant source of amusement and should be kept just for that reason. I love reading some people's moans about it, and how it's all taken so serously. Who gives a **** lol.

It only matters if you care

From the technical side:
  • I'd like to install a new version of vBulletin. In fact, I intend to. However, ScoobyNet is *HEAVILY* customized. Upgrading vBulletin involves (among other things) going through the templates and porting old customizations to the new version's templates. With all the customizations here, that's a really big project. It isn't going to happen overnight.
  • The "jump to last post" problem was examined by the vBSEO team, and they reported it's because of a template problem. I intend to correct that problem by upgrading (see above.)
  • It's not my decision alone (running the site is a team effort), but I'm not real fond of user infractions, and I intend to get the situation reviewed. I can't say if they will stay or go but I've given my input already.
  • There is a new version of IBSearch with some bugfixes and I'll be deploying it here. IBSearch is responsible for keeping search traffic off the main DB, which is a huge help. It also lets you search for terms like "K&N" which the vBulletin stock search won't find.
  • We're looking at the hardware situation to see if it's time for an upgrade.

I agree. The rot set in when Paul Palmer left and now we only seem to have James and Sally actively moderating.

Totally agree on this one

Paul Palmer and Paul Habgood were really good too. I think Diablo was around when I came on the scene and he was damn good too. He still is, helps me with dog advice, quick as, when my best pal isn't around

Wan't Paul removed for being a little... er... less than objective in his posting?

Or am I thinking of someone else?

I know when updating my own forum with all the mods can be a right pain in the *** and you can be there for days!

I like the sounding of what you have planned and will be good to see but please leave the infractions behind!

Good luck buddy!

Cheers!

Glad to hear you are looking at the infraction system. It leaves a great deal to be desired and has caused a good few unpleasant problems in the past.

Know how you feel. Just updated our forum last night from 3.7.3 to 3.7.4 (dont dare do the 3.8 beta ) and boy what a disaster. Luckily everything was backed up, but the update/upgrade failed in a spectacular fashion and after 4 hours sleep I managed to get it back up and working at 6 a.m this morning

And that is just on a small forum , so god knows what it would be like on here with all the customised templates etc.

So good luck with that

And can I just say thanks to Stu and IB admin for posting on this thread in such a positive manner

And thanks for the words of support for my moderating days (as Diablo, for anyone who didn't know). I would happily get involved again in that role working with the new owners should they so wish.

Another era in the evolution of Scoobynet has come to an end. One I did not particluarly care for.

I am confident that the next one will be a good one, and one that I would be happy to help with
