A forum I was an active member (and mod) on had an Admin that no one knew who he was. He is in fact a Mod on here (and the reason I joined the site) and STILL no one knows who the original Admin was..... Given his anonymous status meant he could post as a member and do his job SEPARATELY. Something I think that could be done here.
The site ADMIN is a technical role, not a day to day running one. This is up to the Mods and the running of any post filtering system should be down to ACTIVE mods in each forum. I think limiting the Infraction checks to one person was a big mistake.
Get a good mod team together, get some senior mods (I dunno if this BBS has the SuperMod status available, but that kind of idea) and get them active.
Oh yeah - and I reckon you should bring back the banned members as well. If nothing else they really livened the place up

The downfall of ScoobyNet didn't happen when IB arrived on the scene.
The introduction of the Infraction System destroyed it - IBs, if you do ANYTHING then remove this unfair and abused system, this will increase your traffic tenfold (and the associated increase in advertisments being viewed).
Look at the bannings and Infractions on this thread and it will be as plain as the nose on your face what needs to be done.

Well it's nice to see some responses from "the powers that be". I've been a lurker for about 4 years and an active poster for about 18 months or so. One of the things that got me interested in Scoobynet, other than the technical side, was the active, banter laden, sometimes irreverent, off topic parts of the forum.
I WAS a Plus member, but with all the issues, when it ran out I didn't bother renewing. The technical info given on prospective upgrades sounds promising, and the simple fact that someone seems to be willing to get involved is a positive step. Things like the homepage, blogs, featured Scooby need to be fixed, retired, revamped, whatever, but I'm realistic that some things take time, but there again they've been broken for quite some time! However, even foregoing these issues there is one major bugbear as far as I'm concerned, you've guessed it, infractions.
Much of this has already been said, but I'd like to add my contribution. The system is inherently open to abuse. The fact that it is a single persons opinion makes it very subjective. If an infraction required a number of people to press the button as it were, then it would be less biased. The appeals process should be done via a committee, not an individual, and should be by a simple majority vote, again this helps removes any bias.
Others have suggested using the post rating function somehow, to trigger an infraction, or to remove one the community sees as unfair. A commendable idea, provided it was based on a large enough number of votes, to prevent yoyo-ing between infract/revoke. This is an Internet forum, and whilst we need to keep within legal boundaries, we also need to keep within reasonable moral and ethical boundaries as well, such as racism, sexism, offending religious beliefs. However, the diversity door swings both ways. We are not all supreme paragons of virtue, diversity and political correctness, but that doesn't give those that are an automatic right to penalise what many wouldn't consider offensive. The fear of the infraction squad has killed a lot of banter on this site. Trolls and the truly unpleasant should be dealt with, but infractions should be the last resort, not the the first, reasoned argument, community reaction, ratings and RTM should be used where possible. Overzealous use of the red button should be punished as vigorously as they are handed out. If you dislike a particular poster, simply put them in your ignore list!
I now fully expect to get my legs slapped for discussing infractions in the main forum

well you have "placed your cards on the table" lets hope it all works out.
maybe the rumors of simon been "asked to leave" are wrong. But in order for you to move forward i believe many wanted Simon to go. They feel upset about how they paid for services they never received etc. But also how it seemed certain advertising companies where been protected from any negative comments .Also the infraction idea was the final nail in his coffin. If ever a stupid idea was made...this was it. Its wrong for you to say some are "keyboard ninjas" etc. You have very very little idea about what has taken place over the years and what you might have been told i would imagine would be "one sided'
I have said many times... Forum owners are not the "true" owners of the forum. Its members are.
Good luck to you and your new ideas etc.
But God help you if you dont sort out the "search "and other issues etc That your paying members have been promised.
Scoobynet are a very unforgiving lot at times !

Being one of the older ones around here now...... i think i first joined in 2001 but thanks to AOL dial up i lost my email and p/word. Anyway there is a lot of history and no i dont direct that all at SdB at all but nevertheless there is history. My point being i left a good 2 years or so ago because of the way the site was going which was a shame as this place some days would have you in stitches laughing at the wind ups and stories but i came back here yesterday, read a lot of posts and besides the place seeming dead compared to what it used to be, it seems false, subdued, with people scared to say or speak their mind. For someone whos been away for so long and coming back to feel deflated by the current situation lack of banter is upsetting. So many good people have left due to the way things have gone as i stay in touch with a few every now and again and they say it just isnt what it used to be
All i can say is Good Luck to Stu at WB, get this place back to "normal" and peeps will come back in their droves............ hopefully !!!!!

OK as someone here who has been pretty active in reporting and nagging about bugs in the last few months can I just say that it is great over the last couple of days to see IB here and posting away and more importantly getting issues sorted.
I know I am a pedant and having a right old ding dong in the Admin section, but it is appreciated and I would like to hope we can all look forward to getting SN back to the forum we know it can be.

If nothing else this topic is interesting in as much as i have seen a lot of new members join up to view it, and most with nothing pleasant to say on the few topics they have visited that are all related to the leaving of the webmaster. Coincidence? Or the very people that Mr De Banke installed this system to remove from his forum in the first place.
Well, that was the first ban of many on Scoobynet for me i guess. How many more to come? If some of these newbies are anything to go by then we may need more moderators. lol

A fraction "harsh" !!
Ive said it before...... most of the problems seem to stem from the little Gangs that formed. All want to "lovely" each other . Without Simon to back them it will be fun to see how they continue
I attended a Scoobynet meet years ago and it was a real "look at us " we are Simons "Bitches" as if they really believed they where important and should be repsected !!
The hardest problem will be how do the owners now deal with negative comments about their advertisers.
for instance: On "22b" ( a specialist Subaru forum of a higher class than here :-) ) There is a thread about a certain importer who is clocking cars. The Bone head forgot to edit the miles on the japanese auction page and since he owned it its lost about 60k !!!!!!!
Now on "22b" etc its fine. But what if that company advertises here??? will the new owners GAG the subject even with such evidence
Here ..have a look: -bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=27;t=001259;p=1#000 036
The worst thing about subaru ownership is how close it takes you to "bone heads"

Its called "History" something Americans dont really understand !!!! so let us English tell you about it
1> Dont think that some members dont have rights to complain about Simon / the system etc. They do . They are members who built this forum into what it is today and the reason IB bought it. Your new and whilst you may know your way around a motherboard ,this is a new forum for you and you must respect there will be 2 sides. And some of those who complain have also paid to be here. Some have earned their respect by giving so much technical assistance .Thats what made Scoobynet . They have a right and we want that right to listen and make our own minds.
Remember 90% of the world is not too keen on been told what to do and read etc by the USA . We are far far less brain washed . so IB should learn how to look at Scoobynet through a English pair of eyes.
Read back and do a search of the Sigma Alarm guy. thats a case of a community been split by greed. One member giving advice no other man could and for free.Look how he was treated!
2. You dont Ban people here. You just make then re register ! You can never ever control who uses this forum. And some might just want to remain "undercover" until they see "what the new Mob are like"

Rewinding a bit on this, I think Clarebabes would make a good mod, 1. because she's fit 2. she's very level headed!
NS 04 unfortunately he's no very fit but I think he'd do a good job
Others off the top of my head Lisawrx, 84of300, EinsteinRA, Tam the bam and ...I can't think of anymore atm!
Regards
Sam, not a newbie btw

Luke, if you wish to get a valid point across, and I guess you are trying to say "the site is defined by the community not by the owners" you could try and be a LITTLE less patronising.
I don't know about IB but if someone replied to a post of mine in that manner, I'd be spitting blood.
You really came across as incredibly rude there, and please don't speak for all of us when it is really your own opinion you are stating.
