Although it is true that you know who we are, we'd quite like to have our proper accounts unbanned because we put the time and effort in to amass a decent quantity of posts etc. and posting behind a doppelganger pseudonym without our proper identities is a bit annoying

Luke, if you wish to get a valid point across, and I guess you are trying to say "the site is defined by the community not by the owners" you could try and be a LITTLE less patronising.
I don't know about IB but if someone replied to a post of mine in that manner, I'd be spitting blood.
You really came across as incredibly rude there, and please don't speak for all of us when it is really your own opinion you are stating.

For reference, i started, grew, sold and still administrate a website that has more traffic than this one you are all posting on now and I have been administrator of it for 5.5 long hard years now. (See how i am now counting half years... its a sign Ive had enough. lol) So please try not to tar me with an incorrect PC geek brush.
Also, I personally own, serve and run over 20 websites and 3 forums from my own servers, not counting any IB owned ones. I am not some geek in an office that doesn't understand communities... far from it, i love them and understand them well enough to grow one from nothing to busier than SN is now in under 5 years. I've served my time.

Thanks for your post, i agree with it wholeheartedly. If i was american i probably would be spitting blood, but instead im now embarassed to be English. Which is worse?

Yes, a busy automotive community cannot survive without such a system. They soon descend into anarchy due to the extreme cross section of users an automotive forum will attract and serve.
My kickboxing forum is peacefuill and hasnt seen a single infraction in over a year. LOL. Go figure. My theory is that martial arts do actually extract a large amount of your overflowing testosterone and calm down that horrible feeling you want to make someone pay, and pay soon!
Driving sports cars amid all our laws and restrictions seems to have a totally inverse effect. Well, unless its an M5 of course.

A quick perusal through 'history' shows that you have left and returned to SN on a few occasions and all those years back, you still seemed to be popular

Luke, sometimes you post some amusing, interesting and thought provoking stuff
At other times you just act like a tit...
I'll let you figure out which one this stunt falls into.
I take it you're back then...

I can see your point about the postcount, but surely the count is not important, nor is the name. The thing that matters is the content of your posts ?

I kinda agree with you, Swiss. But at the end of the day, if the landlord of your local banned you for swearing and then told you that you could come back in but only if you agree to crawl through the catflap and change your name to Derek, would you do it or tell him to go f*ck himself and find another pub to drink in ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
.....and yes, I agree, my comedic genius does have a certain effortless quality to it

It served well to remove the spam from the site, but it alienated many of the members which made the site what it was.
In my opinon a Forum should allow differing views, as long as those views are made without foul language and without bad taste. The Infraction is simply used these days by a few small minded to silence others with views which differ from their own.
If the post gets a very negative vote then an Infraction could be automatically issued - if others in the community see nothing wrong with the post they could vote for it to be reversed (using the very same thumbs up/down as now).
Reference your KickBoxing Forum, it does not surprise me about the lack of Infractions - I have a few friends who are heavy into this sport as well as weightlifting with me in the gym ..... they would think it utterly pathetic to Infract someone, they have a confidence in themselves which doesn't lend itself to Infracting (they have the ability to ignore).
The small minded who have no power in real life love to Infract and you don't tend to get those in kickboxing!

If this infraction system HAS to stay. Would it not be fair to make the decision on objections given to more Mods rather than just one person deciding if the infraction should stay or go. One person can't speak for all at the end of the day. And if other people agreed the infraction should not have been dished out, this has generally been ignored, because of the one person making the decision.
Does that make any sense

Of course it's important! It's an identity that's been built up. Often it's one that people remember and associate with posts and threads in the past - perhaps fondly, perhaps less so. Would you be happy to start as a newbie again?

I've said just the same earlier. Simply pass the ability to reverse infractions onto the Mods. If there are any contentious ones these can simply be dicussed in the Mods forum. Or create a new sub-forum where the infractions are discussed. Then when a consensus is reached the infraction is dealt with.
If it's just bloody obvious and a no-brainer, then mod in situ could reverse straight away.
