Was he shut in the kitchen when your wife went out ?
One thing we have found with our Border Collie is that she is very nosy, and always likes to see what is going on. If you stop her going in a room, she thinks shes missing something really interesting and will get wound up.
We generally just let her have the run of the house now, and she rarely causes any problems or destroys things. ( She is a git for stealing stuff though, if you put anything down and leave it, it'll be gone and she'll have hidden it somewhere ).
We did find baby gates were quite good if you want to keep her out of a room as she can still see in and see she isnt missing something, but doesnt bother to try and get into the room.

My neighbour has a Border Collie and another similar thing (hairy, mental, slightly more stupid), and successfully keeps them both in the laundry room using a child gate. Might be worth a try?

Aren't dogs great!! ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
When I was younger and living at home. We had a cat flap installed in the back garage door. Damn cat never used it, but the dogs did!! Quite impressive when you consider the 2 dogs involved were a Tibetan terrier and a Bearded Collie!!!
The collie was neurotic to say the least!! Thought every human was a friend, and thought it was missing something if it wasn't within sight line of you. Bloody telepathic though. The dogs could be down the garden, and all you would have to do is go for you shoes and you'd have 2 dogs at your feet knowing it was walkies time. (we even vaired the time, same result).
Best 1 was though when the cat and dogs teamed up
You see the dogs wanted anything that went cruch. Toast, raw carrot, you name it they ate it. You put a plate on the living room table an turned your back with anything like that on and you'd be going hungry!!!

Anyhow 1 year, mum left my birthday cake on the side, nothing untoward in that. Except the cat jumped up on the side, and had a munch. Dogs then wanted in!, so the damned moggie knocked it onto the floor, and all 3 filled their boots, well bellies. We came home from where ever we'd been to see 3 very full pets asleep in the crumbs looking very contended
I'm not supprised, it was a 2 layer sodding big gateau!!!!

She stole a ginger nut out of a packet left on a chair earlier - I turned round just in time to see her legging it out of the room with the biscuit half hanging out of her mouth.
When I went to get it off her she wiggled the whole biscuit into her mouth, closed it and just sat there looking innocent.

Yes, otherwise the alarm would go off.
He has done it once before when they were staying at her parents (previous owners) but that was 3 or 4 years ago.
Dont know what to do really, they suggested a cage but that is kind of masking the problem rather than solving it, I am hoping the bollocking and Piri Piri will help.

Ours used to chew stuff when we first got him. I made a spray up mixing Citronella (sp) and water. He hates the smell and has left anything alone that is sprayed with it.
Don't have to bother now as he seems to have got the message
