I cant let that pass Matt: for the most part, Panerai are crap. Over-priced marketing lead, nothing special, with no real history. Unless it has a crown on the crown, then its tat.

Panerai has no history?

BJSOnline Panerai Vintage Catalogue

How about a Rolex Panerai?

A friend of mine paid nearly 100,000 Euro for a very rare Kampfschwimmer.

Longines make nice watches though

What do you think Im referring to when I mention a 'crown on the crown'. I appreciate that Panerai polarise opinion; but I stand by my comment that they dont have any real history, relative to PP, Omega, Rolex etc.

If you think you can walk into a shop and get a 25% discount, then on you go

Have you ever heard the term ''cut your nose off to spite your face''

If it wasn't for ''middlemen'' some good deals would simply just not be possible.

No risk involved, discount offer open to family and friends as are most staff discount schemes

On a TAG? No problem. Think you might be stretching the 'friends and family' thing a bit far by offering to ***** out the discount on a public forum to anyone that will pay you. Still we won't find out will we unless the company find out somehow (a link to this thread and others perhaps?).

As far as Panerai go I'm no fan of the modern stuff but nobody can deny that the name has a respectable heritage.

Replica rolex's are available for peanuts, and seeing so many skanks with fake Submariners has clouded my appreciation of the brand anyway.

To summarise, all the sales guys in the VW showroom where I work have nice watches ranging from a nice Armani Meccanico up to a Ball Railmaster, but we used to have a guy who wore a bi-metal Sub (Blue face) and without a word of a lie, half the customers he ever spoke to asked him if it was real! ! ! !

I wear a Tag 2000 bi-metal for work most days, because I like the design and the feel. People may say "tag are cheap crap" or whatever, but so are Subaru's and most of us on this site have one of those as well!

All these posts about "Why not buy an "X" or a "Z"" are missing the point somewhat! It's like someone coming on and asking where to get a good deal on an Impreza, and everyone saying "Why not put the extra to, and buy a second hand Ferrari?"

Of course taste plays a large part in people's decisions and naturally some people have very poor taste and wear things like a bi-metal TAG.

Your point about fakes could apply to any brand but of course Rolex is one of the most copied brand as it's the best known 'expensive' watch. Personally if I happen to be wearing a Rolex and someone asks me if it's a fake I always tell them yes and that it cost $50.

Your point drawing a comparison between Subaru and TAG is flawed. Subaru is a brand that has engineering integrity and a fairly single minded vision (the development of AWD for one). The antithesis of most of TAG's badge engineered, over hyped and over priced garbage in fact.

Then don't bother replying.

I'm guessing the lame attempt at an insult indicates you're a man of little imagination or patience as well as someone with appallingly poor taste.

I ask because your idea of 'fashionable' seems about as out of date and naff as the items alluded to above.

Hot watches would be something like a Hublot Big Bang, certain Panerais or a Rolex Steel Daytona (for a woman). Not that I particularly like any of them but I'm damned sure they are the type of thing you see non-sponsored 'fashionable' wealthy people wearing. Not some skag special TAG.

Another point the asking price of the typical TAG may not be cheap by your standards but the construction, quality and design most certainly are.

Guess some people appreciate design classics and others live in a world that smells of stale trans fatty acids.
DO YOU?????? You seem to like saying a lot to ppl! maybe you dont like to see people doing better than yourselve.

Yes I like brand names, Yes I like labels. Its the same with my car! Judging by your comments i feel you are the type of person that would fit a £2 E-bay resistort chip on your car as it doesnt have as big an "advertising" campaign as say a K&N induction kit

I don't have one no, it seems quite likely that you do however.

Yes I seem to like 'saying a lot to ppl!'

As for 'you dont like to see people doing better than yourselve', it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I'm yet to see any on this thread or indeed on this website, in terms of money, intellect or I suspect personal satisfaction.

Regarding your 'E-bay resistort chip' I'm afraid you're mistaking marketing with quality and suitability. Ever heard of Dasani?- 'That's you that is'

NACRO - you seem to have issues my friend

You dont like TAG watches, we all get that by now, but to be quite frank I couldn't give a sh!te. I like them and thats what I'm aiming to purchase.

My original post was asking the question with regards to buying such items online, not "recommend me a watch" or "how cheap are TAG's".

Appreciate your comments but I don't think any further comments about "how crap TAG's are" are required.

......... and back on topic

For all of you out there with expensive watches, have any of you ever purchased from such places or do you stick with the high street stores?

Cheers

If your local Goldsmiths don't play ball.Tell them you'll go elsewhere and tell them you'll just buy it off their website (pretty sure the one you're looking at is there).

Also tell them you're a member of Quidco and you'll get 18% (i think) cashback by doing this. Also,if you take a new credit card out to fund the purchase (ie AMEX who were offering 6% cashback for the first month or so) and that's 24% cashback you will get.

That makes the watch around £1200ish.

Jewellers do have the power to drop prices if you ask the right person.I bought a Rolex from a jeweller in Northampton and he matched an online price that i saw from an unauthorised dealer. That instantly knocked £450 off it-i was also very fortunate that i agreed this price just before the Rolex price hike of another £300!!

Regarding some of the dealers online. They are supposedly able to offer the lower prices as they claim to buy them from authorised avenues (with dealer stamp and all) but don't mark them up as much, they don't have the overheads either.

Probably a silly question but whats Quidco?
