Not a silly question - try Quidco - The web's cashback cooperative or Quidco - Goldsmiths

It's well worth having a quidco account. So far buying online through quidco has saved me ~£550 in 1.5 years.

I brought my first Tag about 7 or 8 years ago, I've no interest in watches in general, just needed something reliable and a bit better to look at than a cheapo Casio.

I've worn it every single day without issue, had a new battery, service and polish every 2 years, but it was starting to look particuarly battered and two of the buttons had dropped out.

I finally replaced it last year whilst at Bicester Village, found the exact same model there for half the price I paid for the original, brand new with a 2 year manufacturers warranty.

£800 for another 7 or 8 years will do me, my job is too manual to be wearing a nice Rolex, but I do get the point about Tag's being 'badge engineered'.

My brothers just brought a Grand Carrera, nice watch, but for that money I would have got a Rolex, what's your opinion on that one Nacro? (Alan, lol)

I've already talked about some TAG watches with some integrity earlier on the thread.

However the 'gauche ebauche' plebs on this thread seem to have missed it.

Do you not realise that some of us buy things because we like them, not to be elitist? Or to seek some approval?

Whether you or anyone else likes them or not has no relevance at all to if I buy something!

Correct, whether I or anyone else likes them is irrelevant.

However we are entitled to an opinion and to share it.

If you really didn't care you wouldn't have whined like a petulant child and resorted to pathetic and juvenile name calling.

As for elitism I believe it's a good thing, rejecting the type of garbage that TAG represents is part of what elevates me from the mire that the dross likes to grut around in.

Best stick to your pints of stella, harvester meals and banality it suits you well.

Just thought I'd share the PM that NACRO has sent to me.

Panerai watches are (IMHO, of course) ugly, I'll give you that. But why would you say "Unless it has a crown on the crown, then its tat"?

Have you never heard of Jaeger LeCoultre, Patek, IWC, Blancpain, Breguet, Zenith, Vacheron Constantin or any other quality watch manufacturer?

Rolex might well have the most ubiquitous marketing, and I don't doubt that they make excellent watches too - but nothing says "I want other people to notice my watch" quite like a Rolex...

Okay so Panerai might not be the best quality ever but they are subtle - and that's vital.

Big Rolexes are for rappers.

Its not quality thats the issue. The Rolex built Panerais are superb and the other watches equal Omega/Breitling. Theyre over-priced, over-styled, marketing-led: theyre a resurrected brand name with no real heritage.

Im not sure what surprises me the most: that they dare charge what they do, or that people pay it...

Quidco - The web's cashback cooperative

It's a website you sign up to and they have deals with many many retailers. If you access the retailer websites through the Quidco site you get a percentage back a few months later credited to your bank account.

Have a look at the website,it explains everything you need to know.

That makes the watch around £1200ish.

Jewellers do have the power to drop prices if you ask the right person..
The price in shop reflects the price on website, there are no differences.

Your patter with quidco and CC wont make the blindest bit of difference. The sales manager will probably most likely laugh and show you the door. A bit like trying to match an inernet price of a car in the dealership showroom.

If you ask, many people are too embarrassed it is likely you can get 10% off a >£1000 item of jewellery. It depends on the shops sales targets at the time.

You are if you think you can walk into a shop give the above patter and get a £1600 watch for £1200

Its not a car boot sale

It's perfectly possible to get a main dealer to match internet prices if he's selling something that's not very desirable. Think most Citroens then apply the same thing to the retailers of something in similarly plentiful supply/poor quality.....like a TAG watch for example.
Perhaps what you're saying rings true in the tat parlour your wife works in but there are plenty of established, respectable independent dealers who will cut you a deal without the pathetic attitude of a sales manager who would 'show you the door'. Most likely some snivelling little would be lower middle class wretch in any case- I love breaking those people.......

I've got no idea what you're talking about regarding biting and children. Something for yourself perhaps?

As for your keyboard warrior comments the only chap I've ever met from scoobynet felt the need to disappear from the site straight after I turned up at his office. Some 'cage fighter' he turned out to be.......
