I certainly dont worship the guy though, its just funny how he single handedly knocked engurland out of the world cup.

The first british team to win the european cup was Celtic (I take it you're a celtic fan ) which is, of course, a scottish team. So does that mean Scotland won it by default?

Anyhoo, I agree with what you say about Maradona, even as a young lassie playing for my primary school team I knew who he was (i was born in 83 by the way).

We lost the football match, but won the War.

I know which I'd rather be proud of!

I don't htink there was or had ever been a player to get near the cheating imp. Imagine just how much better he could have been if he'd had looked after himself like Pele did?

Don't get me started on this 'minority'..........

A nation that is wracked full of jealousy and bitterness at all the success England continues to rack up and to the attention London and the country get.

A country that salutes, supports and lauds anything anti-English. Including a cheat (at both sport and with drugs).

A country who bemoan every positive thing that comes out of the South and who complain at how boring it is to hear us going on about '66', when every verse of their national anthem celebrates a single victory over the English some 690 years ago.

I'm pleased the Jocks are throwing themselves at Maradona's feet. The cringeworthy nature of this act (as they slaver and laugh loudly at interpreters jokes) simply proves the deep rooted hatred that consumes their lives.... long may that remain, because it controls their lives as they strive pathetically to get the odd 'one over' on us....

Makes me laugh...and I pity them....

Before anyone has a go... my wife of 24 years is Scottish, and she's one of the real minorty who are justly proud of their fabulous and ancient heritage... and who remain proud without the English baggage that consumes the others and forever holds them back...

She's a pro cook by trade, so fortunately that hasn't been on the menu. Though the Haggis, neeps and tatties when done properly, are out of this world..

They're lovely if done properly!

I lived in Elgin for a few years and was surprised by the anti-English idiots. If those people used this energy in a positive way the country would benefit and be a much better place to live.

Ignore the really awful 1970s buildings many Scottish towns are blighted by, and they are nice places and the standard of living is as good as, or better than their English counterparts IMO.

In fact, the best Chinese and Indian take aways I've ever had were both north of the border, and there's no better night out than in a Scottish pub on New Year's Eve.

I'm normally quite a nice lass, but........

JESUS H CHRIST!

The majority of Scotland ARE proud of their heritage without the need to mention english baggage.

Where FOOTBALL is concerned can you please explain this:

2023: "Are you Scotland in disguise?" sing the vastly over-confident England fans to their German counterparts.
Not just us, is it, dear?

I don't have a problem with the 'banter' Claire... that's part of the game. I'd take that (and back from the Jocks) in good spirit...

But I've had a belly full of this 'minority' having their way why we, South of the border, laugh it off as 'quaint'. Quaint my ****.

The laughter from the Scottish press conference crowd at the Maradona comment that 'England cheated their way to World cup victory' (I agree it didn't cross the line, but it wasn't cheating) was not the minority and it wasn't banter. They lapped him up.... Without realising it (or caring for that matter), they've done Maradona and football a big dishonour by praising him for it (the hand goal)... as stated elsewhere, it's taken away from the glory of one of the greatest goals in World Cup History... a real shame that they have to take every cheap shot and opportunity to get one over on the English....

By the way... I'd be interested in your comments on the national Anthem.....

Got anything to back this up.

Most sweaties I come into contact with wouldn't know William Wallace from Ma Broon.

And those that have heard of him think he's an Australian actor .

The only reason they've heard of any achievements of the Scots is though a junk e-mail that been doing the rounds proclaiming how much better the Jocks are than the ENGERLISH.

Most Scots are well balanced - Chips on both shoulders

With regards to Butcher. He should shut the *** up. He's always been a tw@t and remains one. The fact he's going on about this now when he's employed by the Scots shows him up for the tosser he is.
If they do cheat then they cannot claim, to be a genuine sportsman! Whatever you say, it is does not make it right.

Claire, I think you may be deluding yourself... I feel the minority isn't as minor as you think. If they truly are, then I'm afraid their voices and actions are a damn sight louder than yours and they're ultimately driving discussions like this.....

as much as i would hate to admit it maradona what a talent ok fairenuff with the hand of god, but god i wish for england to have just ONE player like him. thats the diffrence between us and the rest of the world if maradona started his carear in england i doubt he would of made it. technical players hardly get a look in.

we have rooney they have messi
we have owen they have kun aguro
we had lineker they had maradona
we have lampard they have riquelme

you got take your hat off to them for the way they play there football

only if we had a team full of stevie G and joe coles we would be doing much better

Incidenatlly, the SFA can't give away tickets for the Scotland/Argenitina friendly - that speaks volumes.

So, before you all start with your Scotland bashing, lets get a few things clear:

I can sympathise with those who are happy to see any team dump the English football team fom the world cup for reasons discussed to death on here, and due, in entirity, to the English media's attitude to such competition which gets forced upon Scotland via the BBC whether we like it or not.

However:

Argentina would probably have beaten England anyway - they were the better team.

Maradonna is not "Worshipped by the Scots", many of whom wouldn't even know who he is. He is worshipped by a small minority. One of whom has now joined this thread ..lol...

what he said,
i was at the game and imho it was not football supports at that game but misguided 'patriotic' scots and mostly families. it was just a nice family night out.

think you'll find the tartan army and most scotland fans only support scotland and then a secondary club team like your hearts, dundee etc. most of my friends (in the blue corner lol) dnt give two ***** bout scotland as does most of the dirtty wee....(na kidding lol) celtic fans i work with.

anyway nothing wrong with a bit of banter especially when it comes to football

Still, the way I look at it is that he had to cheat to beat us... Couldn't do it fairly, so cheat. Then winge. No wonder the Jocks love him.
