Christ, there are a couple of guys on there who allow them to hold info that they were attached to certain police units / army regiments... considering they also have your home address... WTF? Are these people stupid? One guy is an active PSC.. with home address.

I have little time for the BNP and their like, but I cant help wondering how this list came to be made public.

Does anyone remember when the BNP were winning by-elections and council seats a few years ago: Tony Blair made a reply speech where he suggested that he would look at 'banning' the BNP. An outrageous remark for a prime minister to make (constitutionally, but in typical labour fashion it ignored the issues provoking people to vte in this way), but typical of the labour party.

I wonder if this is underhand?

Why cant you be a copper and part of the BNP? If theres something wrong or illegal about the BNP surely they should be banned as a political party anyway?

Maybe it's because it wouldn't be wise to have openly racist police officers?

As for who leaked it I believe infighting was the cause.

Some of their policies are good and some are terrible. They are an accredited political party.

From the telephone interview on BBC news this morning with the BNP leader, there was a few words regarding exactly why police should not join.

He said the BNP advises the police not to join - obvious reasons IMO.

She said they chose not to.

He said, the Labour government told them not to.

NuLabor made it illegal in 2003.

I dare say they would like to make it illegal for anyone to be a member of a political party other than NL if they thought they could get away with it.

While I find the BNP abhorent, there's a high court injunction out against publication of the list. At the risk of sounding like an old fart it would be better if this thread disappeared off the face of SN.

Nacro - great comment

They're not an "also ran " party really anymore.

local elections, not national BTW
Well they poll above the Tories and Lib Dems in the general elections round my way

An interesting question... would it be more embarrassing to be on this list, or to still be supporting New Labour?

I would have thought telling serving police officers they couldn't be a member of a political party is against their human rights

Everyone is free to make their own choices

as far as im concerned, people politicle views are there own and should be free to have what ever views they like.

our society is suposed to allow people to have there say, no matter how much we object to it, its called democracy.

stopping people saying what they want is called tyrany nad opression. Is that the kind of society we want to live in?

however, if it goes beyond words and legal acts then it should be stopped.

no im not with the bnp and and not on the list lol, i just feel that all are entitled to there own say, wether i want to opose that view or not.

It's not illigal for police to be BNP members.

It is police policy that they are not allowed and would face disciplinary action.

They are not committing an offence and would be able to use the HRA as a defence at tribunal.

One day if they are still in power, they will tell us that it is no longer necessary to vote and that they will graciously stand in to keep running the country!
