Hi Dotty, I did the same as what you're planning to do, Type R to PPP. I loved the Civic but the Subaru is something else entirely!
I agree with what people are saying about the PPP, you probably could get more bang for buck going for a tuners package. Mine made 306 on the rollers but it would benefit from a remap - boost tails off a bit. Although if the PPP's already been done it doesn't add much to the asking price and you get a lot of useful bits done with it. Ecutek remap is £550 plus VAT
I've had one shock replaced and another needs doing, so a warranty would help. Mine came with a years from the dealer.
Petrol consumption - is quite scary sometimes. I normally get 290-300 out of a tank with mainly motorway driving but it has been as bad as 190. V Power is a must, standard SUL killed the performance on mine
The brakes cost a fortune - £600 for front disks, £175 for DS2500's on the front.
Servicing - every 10K, £100 for a minor, £300 major, £200 cambelt from an Independent
Insurance - about £50 more than the Civic!
I've had mine for 12K miles and the tyres easily have another 12K left in them
So probably best to do what I do and save a bit each month for any nasty surprises!
Handling is shockingly good and it's bloody quick - for the money they sell at these days you'd be hard pressed to find a better car I think

Matt, surely these are cheaper than £600!
Brakes : Subaru Impreza Brembo Drilled Brake Discs
Am I correct in thinking all Sti 8's run Brembo calipers? As these and a set of ferodo pads would do the trick.

Sorry for posting again!, reading through the boards, am I right in thinking the PPP Sti's have a different caliper to the normal Sti's making the discs more expensive?
Ask me about Integra DC5's and EP3's and I know them inside out, I am still learning about the Sti

ppp'd cars have the same brakes as std sti's.
I traded in my civic type r in sept 03 and bought a new 03 sti, great car the scoob but it needs the ppp or tuning to get a wider power spread.

Hi Dotty
In reply to your PM , £600 for a pair of discs is a bit of a rip off ! I can supply you front discs in my current group buy for £145 a pair , and these come with a 12 month guarantee against warping even if you do track days , they are available in 5 x 100 and 5 x 114 PCD's.
The STi's all have the same calipers and discs , there is no difference in these wether its PPP'd or not , the only difference might be in the pad material
Cheers Ian

When buying an 03/53 sti try and buy one with as much from the shopping list (see below) as you can that way (and believe me you probably will) not need to upgrade when you get it.
1) Upgraded power - with receipts from the likes of Zen Performance Powerstation, Roger Clarke Motorsports, etc 330+ bhp
2) Upgraded brakes, AP Racing, K-Sport, etc
3) Upgraded handling whitelines, Perrin drop links, Rollbars, wheel alignment
4) Upgraded suspension KYB, Tein, etc
5) Upgraded head unit and speakers (preferably amped).
6) Upgraded security like Avantguard alarm, etc
I personally do not see the point in buying a car like this in 'standard' spec better to buy one that someone has already done up for you.....

This is one occasion where I'm glad I'm wrong, Subaru dealer told me £600 for brake discs! I think Performance Friction ones are around £600 but it's good to know you can get cheaper ones

Bugger, i sold my 2003 sti ppp in wr blue with 37000 miles on the clock and full subaru service history (serviced 3 weeks ago at a cost of £619) to a dealer in part exchange 2 weeks ago for £7000, it sounds like it would have been spot on for you.

I think I would prefer to buy off a forum member as at least then you know they care about and have some knowledge of the car they drive
