Yup it's just the same as buying from a private sale. Go look at the car before and then put your bid in. I bought my mk2 from there and have tried selling it on there too. It's no different than Autotrader.

For what its worth earlier this year I also done as your planning to do.

I had a Civic Type R, then got a 2004 STI.

One thing I did find when buying one is dont always be sucked in by the cheaper cars that are advertised, sure, the odd few may be in good nick but I went to have a look at several, some a few hours down the road too, only to find when I got there peoples ideas of "its in great condition" vary widely!

I know at the current times these cars are going for silly money (in June I paid 12k for mine, has several mods tho but wouldn't want to sell it now!!) so you have a better chance of getting a 'true' good condition car then when I was looking.

Ideally you want one thats had a re-map, suspension mods (as your probably aware there is a known fault with the standard items) and ideally exhaust & air filter upgrades.

I run mine on V-Power as thats what it was mapped on.

Mines running 340Bhp but has an upgraded fuel pump and been mapped to run with its current mods. I get about 220 miles to a tank but this is my daily drive and im doing about 12 miles a day in traffic/30-40mph limits so probably just about the worst driving conditions for MPG! On a run I can get around 300 to a tank and thats sitting at about 80mph.

I serviced it in Dec which cost about £190. (4 year/40k service).

Breaks on mine are Performance Friction jobs which the previous owner had fitted, these cost about 1k but not if this included fitting etc.

Everywhere I rang /online was quoting over £2k! but they took in consideration my previous cars ie. Clio V6, 480bhp Supras.

When I took policy I was 24 with 3 years no claims and an SP50 driving ban for treble figures on a motorway

Just for reference, I think your quote would be around £400-£650 based on fact your older and no bans

Hi mate, yes - I was looking to get one last year (xmas time) but my car never sold quick enough for the one I was looking at, kinda gutted.. but when my quest for a scooby began I got side tracked and bought a JDM EP3 (which is great!) I am now selling that, and keeping an eye open for an Sti in the mean time.

To add to my comments posted at the start of the year I would suggest an 03 JDM STi instead of a Type UK.

If the search function actually manages to bring up the right topic then you will see this has been discussed on here before!

Only reason I went Type UK over JDM is because the local subaru garage happened to have one with just 29k on the clock and 12 months warranty. Now that these cars are a little older I would definately consider JDM as a better buy.

Right, avoid that JDM 350bhp one, supposedly its had a heavy frontal at some time one of the lads on here (and in the local subaru group to me) had a look and its not a good repair job underneath

Now before you get into any bad habits, versions stopped with the last of the classic STI's (version 6) so you need to refer to them as model years, and here is why

MY01 JDM STI's were 280ps cars, UK/EU/US didnt have a production model.
MY02 JDM STI's, 280ps, UK/EU got its first official STI, 265ps model, lower spec to the JDM car (no auto spray, quick rack steering etc), but mechanically similar (these 2 years were known as bug eyes)
MY03 UK car, 265ps, facelifted but still mechanically similar to the MY02 cars, now here is the biggest change, the JDM models had a total revamp, the engines were vastly improved over the UK cars, better oil flow to the bearings due to the upgraded crank (a known issue with earlier cars, especially classics but it still caused some though no where near as many issues with the new age cars for big end bearing failure).
ECU's were much improved on the JDM models, they came with A-DCCD (auto drivers controlled central differential) but there was a lower spec KL model without the drivers pack, and these had a new innovation that you dont see on the UK/US/EU cars, twin scroll turbo's (far better low down power and greater torque output, no burble due to equal length headers but more of a race bike sound to them )

The next big change was on the MY05 STI's, they all had a geometry change which the JDM Spec C had, making the car less understeery and more balanced, UK cars came with A-DCCD as standard (optional with EU imports for 1k) UK cars still dont have the quick rack steering (they have fast rack as standard which is a little less responsive), you can spot these cars due to the rear arch "flare" on them (MY03-05 cars are known as blob eye), JDM cars had a power increase on MY05 cars from the quoted 280ps to just over 300ps due to a revised manifold/breathing.

MY06 (Known as hawk eye).
Biggest changes here are that UK/EU/US cars all had a new engine (2.5ltr) which unfortunately isnt as strong as the 2ltr it replaced, BUT its a torquier engine making for a more refined drive with better in gear response, still no real upgrades over previous models, but an increase in power output to 300ps, JDM cars retain the 2ltr twin scroll engine (they still run it now in the latest MY09 cars, power output to over 308ps and still more goodies )

You have to have a good look around, people will tell you that JDM cars are "inferior", where in fact they are far nicer to drive than their UK counterparts , but alas there are some rather dodgy places that import these cars (normall trash and up in yorkshire, ask on here before you buy) so you have to look around a fair bit for a good one, this includes UK cars which can still have a dodgy history so dont be fooled that a UK will be any better.

Rare but not worth that cash, knock it down to 10k and its a good buy not based on the Spec C, just the normal model JDM STI but has the roof vent you would have to see if this was one of the original 2 imported from new back in 2004 by Prosport in Stockport, oh and god knows why he upgrade the fuel pump, people just dont understand these JDM models dont require that unless you upgrade the turbo

I got the info from Jay bee who was looking for a jdm new age, he went to look at it and gave it a wide birth because of said repair job, so just passing on to any potential buyer (wondering if its an old ktc car )
