The first record I ever bought was a cover version of Tom Dooley for 4 shillings (ok, I know it was at least 90 years ago ) It came from Woolworth's.

Sorry to see it's demise

Have to say only bought one thing from PCWorld - admittedly it was faulty but they replaced it without question.

Currys/Dixon agreed can go fish.

My daughter likes woolies for the toys - we're going to go tomorrow to see if we can do a vulture job on the place. They had been running 3 for 2 on all toys so we got 120 worth of toys for 80. They were selling hornby trainsets for 40 which is quite a good buy. The clothes were a bit carp though.

I think I can sum up the states of the retail market for each of these shops with these three smiles.

Currys

Just spoke to my mum and she said that Woolworths staff have been told that all Woolworths shops will close by January 5th.
Just hope there's enough money left to pay some of the employees redundancy.....

Makes me laugh ... Goverment wont bail (and to be honest rightly so)
But want to put a package together for Jaguar, who are now Indian owned ....

Just dont seem right to me .... If Ford cant get Jaguar to work, maybe the time has come to let it die.

I was in my local Woolies yesterday and it looked like one of those cheap-and-cheerful-here-one-day-and-gone-the-next stores. Not much stock left, loads of empty shelves and most things just displayed on pallets.

Huge premises which i think will stay empty for years

The first shops will permanently close on December 27th, and all stores will close by January 5th.

3 of the Woolies around here, including the shops my sister and mum work at have now closed.
I went into 1 yesterday and while it wsa mainly full of crap there was the odd bargain to be had, I got a DS lite for £8.99
While I was in there the guy from the administrators said you could fill a carrier bag for a fiver so I got shed loads of batteries, a hand blender and some chocolate brazils
