Would have measured the v4 cams for you mate, but won't be going into workshop till next weekend sorry fella. If by then nobody has posted i shall confirm figures. Or alternatively PM Merlin24 aka Mick with your request he knows all.....

Good Luck

Looking at the exhaust lobe alone ties in with Jolly Greens picture of him measuring the exhaust lobe at 42.69..on his version 3 sti heads.

Now only if the v4 head guru Merlin24 can confirm the rest. Adzer honestly just PM him he will answer this que and put your mind at rest for good.

exhaust match my sti3.. I need to find the measurements or remeasure the inlet but the inlet matched 98UK.. when I measured and compared.

I think there must be a few pics on my Project thread; I built up some STi3/4 heads myself and had a couple of STi setups through my hands as well as UK v4. The STi's both had two line cams, the UK ones, only one line. The STi's both had the line(s)through the casting of the letter/number. IH/EH valves are STi3/4 and LH-B/RH-B head castings which are universal v4.

There seems to be from my measurements, about 0.1mm difference in lift between the in and ex lobes on the STi3/4 cams - around 42.5mm inlet cam height and 42.6 and a bit on the exhausts. This was pretty consistent over the 8 STI3/4 cams I've measured up. They result in a valve lift of 8.5mm in, 8.6mm ex. The WRX/UK v4 cams I looked at had lifts of just under 8.4mm in and just over 8.4mm on the ex.

Largest STi3/4 lobe I measured was a 42.67mm which gave 8.68mm lift.

Hope this helps.

That explains it then.

So just to confirm these are STI Cams but UK STI.....hence why these have the single line through the cam markings.

Adzer i hope Silent Runnings answer puts your mind at rest...

they cant be sti.....if i have calculated it right the lift on the cams are

inlet 8.20
exhaust 8.50

silent running is saying that wrx cams have bigger lifts????

nothing ever goes right for me

Well, not quite...there WAS no UK STi as a classic, unless someone knows very different. All classic STi's were imports. Stuff like the P1 and 22B which had STi parts were the only exceptions. What I'm getting at is that if these are v3/4 heads, they look at first glance like STi3/4 heads but without the cams. You'd need to get the springs out to look at them, but let's assume that because the tappets and underbucket shims are right, as well as the valves, the springs will be too.

If your lift measurements come up in the right range then you're OK. I've never seen '1 line' STi3/4 cams before though.

Ok i obviously mis-understood. I have PM'd Mick to pop on the thread and give some advice.

But he may be on holiday, as he would have replied by now.

But Silent i have also never seen STI cams without the 2 cast lines, hence why i was hoping Mick would come here and answer.

ok so lets say everything is to sti spec apart from the cams, what cams would fit the heads and would there be a huge difference in power etc?

WRX or UK turbo cams would fit. You wouldn't get the extra lift, and at a guess, not the duration either, but I'm willing to stand corrected on that. You'd be running harder valve springs than normal as well so you could rev it, but wouldn't see more power up the top of the revs like you would with the STi. At a guess!

From the picture - they are Version 2 heads ( tell by the spark plug holes) but without knowing the valve codes, spring ID and type of Lifters - could be STi or WRX

At least now i Know what R3IN........the 3 stands for.....i.e. version 2 cam. When i strip my V2 STI heads i will do a full spec on the heads inc pics (don't know if theyr're hydraulic or solid lifters though) wait and see..could be a while though, or sooner if the gasket goes....hehe

YOU CAN'T RUN HYDRAULIC PROFILE CAMS WITH SOLID LIFTERS

They will last about 1000 miles and rattle their bollocks off.

So maybe I've missed something really obvious - since when are standard non-STi v4 cams 'hydraulic profile'? when v4 heads all used shims AFAIK. The difference is non-STi used overbucket and STi used underbucket. And seeing as we already concluded that they were STi4 heads bar the actual cams, I still say that yes, you could try running non-STi v4 cams in there. They would physically fit.
