I guess it comes down to the individual.

Personally, if i was in his position, i'd have just done a buy it now for the £40 he paid. That way we'd know he wasn't making a profit on it.
Other than that it comes down to morals. Again - personally - i wouldn't want to make money in the way he might be doing. Others might agree with him, and think it is ok.

Each to their own i guess.

Why is everyone going so crazy about this?
The posters were created to raise money for charity yes? They were all sold and money was raised.
What happens with them after has nothing to do with it.
If someone is prepared to pay a lot more than the original price then what is the problem?

Totally agree Fantom, well said. If for some reason mine goes up for sale I'll be sure to be ready for some over-the-top abuse.

It just bemuses me. The charity decided how much they wanted to raise when then decided the price of the item. They all sold so they got all the money they wanted. Why would they be unhappy about this?

The charity bit isn't the issue IMHO. Basically this guy bought it to sell on. I could put up a story about it etc etc but at the end of the day, rather than make a post on here or on SIDC they've put an open auction on eBay.

The issue is that only 555 of these were made and over 1000 cars are in the pic. For various reasons a lot of genuine people missed out on a print and the moral thing to have done would have been to offer it up to one of these people for the price paid or done an eBay for charity listing. since they haven't i believe they deserve an eyebrow raise combined with a loud TUT.

Personally I think making 555 prints when there was over 1000 cars there on the day was a bit daft in the first place. I'm sure they could have sold a shed load more at that price.... In fact they still could!

I do think the guy has chosen his wording very carefully ... what cut he's taken is unclear everyone has their own view on that I suppose!

But he paid for it. Its not as if he stole it. If people are stupid enough to pay silly money for it then thats up to them.

It wasnt the charity that produced these! Its three people that have given up all the spare time they have to organise this event and everything that has came after it. We have already had the they could have sold more prints debate.

As g7prs said - this debate has happened. Legally, nothing wrong, morally? Well some people just have lower standards than others, simple.

if somebody offered you £50,000 would you take your £40 and give the rest to charity?

The charity stands to make more money which is good (lets say he is donating to charity because WE don't know this guy)

If people are naive enough to think some weren't bought to purely sell on then thats up to them.

Yes there was a debate about there not being enough and it was an error of judgement on whoevers part for not making more. It was obvious in my opinion that if 1000+ scooby owners took time to attend the gathering that there needed to be more made, by not doing this they became more valuable as there is a demand for them.

Why make 555 of them? so the people that bought them where getting a one off peice of valuable memorabilia?, why do they need to be valuable if its about people getting a memento of the historic day and making money for charity. Should have just printed to order then the charity wins people win and the scooby linch mob have nothing to winge about

Oh and i was going to buy one but thought because there wasn't enough for everyone then i'd leave it for someone else.

and breathe lol

£155, quite alot at this stage of the auction, 4 and half days left! Got a funny feeling ie may be being bumped like the live8 tickets. If they are genuine bids then the origonal sellers dipped out big style. Watch and see

Just quickly read through this thread and really cant see the fuss.

As a few people have said, the print was bought through the correct channels and is a legitimate item.
If the owner/keeper/friend wants to sell it, it is THEIRS to sell.

It doesn't belong to anyone moaning on here.

If someone wants to pay £300 for a piece of paper then thats their look out and right also.

Even if they donate £10.00 back to CMG, thats £10.00 more they would have got had the original purchaser kept it!!!

supply and demand, nothing else.

Anyone want to buy my signed Adam and the Ants album?????

Chill out folks

as above...
its up to the individual what they do with the photo....
it was paid for so how is it immoral???
good bit of business IMO if you can buy a piece of paper and sell for at least 4 times the value.....happy days!!!
life goes on!!!
think i'll wait a while before goin on ebay with mine!!!!

Totally understand all that chap. Not saying anything different although i think it is people being naive about the sellers reasoning. Why not just be honest and say he's out for a quick buck? If he really wanted to do the charity thing then as has been pointed out there are so many better ways to do it.

As for only 555 produced... well if anyone doesn't understand the significance of that number to Subaru/McRae there is something wrong! As the organisers said there will be posters of this coming out soon at half the price. Nothing wrogn with paying more for limited editions or indeed makign them. subaru have done enough themselves!

So anyway, in summary - just be honest. We don't need some silly story and some waffle about charity. Just doesn't sit right. I'd have more respect for the seller if they were completely open and honest. As it stands, it is just a bit sad.

I'll also go with £300 and i have no idea if someone would offer 50,000 for mine, it is at the framing place now and going on the hallway wall next week.

My opinion

He should of contacted the mcrae team and had them auction it off on here /SIDC website and if he wanted his £40 that would of been ok

yes he is entitled to sell it if he wants but then a true enthuasist would of put it on here
