Great choice, the SL55 is one of my faves as well, although given the choice is new mercs id probably go for the e65 amg estate.
I know you think the dealers are all sugar and spice and all things nice, but in my experience of the dealer network they wont be when its service time or if anything goes wrong. In my experience, i've had 3 mercs, after sales support is shocking.

The big thing about MB aftersales is that all the garages are different, and even the level of service from each receptionist varies. I know, cause I've worked in some. Some good reports with customers coming back year on year, with others disgusted after the very first service (although some are put off by the price of servicing - did you not look in to this before you bought the car you numpty?)
Oh, by the way mykp, you don't get a E65, just a E63. It sounds like a small point, but the 63 engine is a AMG designed and built naturally aspirated V8 that pumps out about 500bhp, wheras the 65 engine is a V12 twin turbo engine that AMG take from the production line, do lots of magic things to, and make it produce 612bhp, and limit the torque to 737 lb/ft so as not to kill the gearbox.

A small point but one worth pointing out Whatever engine is in the E class AMG makes it go very fast and the noise Still a bit out of my price range at the moment.

Which black one Phil, I used to have the top one then the middle one and have now recently acquired the bottom one. Value for money now on these cars is extremely good. Running costs aren't cheap but hey what do you expect for a 500 BHP AMG Merc.

No wasn't me on the M6 on Xmas eve ?? Hope there isn't a clone of me out there
Yeah my neighbours Cossie he loves them. Spends 2 hours every weekend cleaning every square inch of it. He has also got one of the 3 door Sierra Cossies. However there are so many good deals to be had on cars at the moment I'm like a kid in a huge sweety shop

I find unless the road surface is bone dry you've got to be very careful with your right foot. The Type R is a different type of fast compared to the SL, the Merc is like an iron fist in a velvet glove and the Type R is like a raw performance, no frills drive. However both are quite brutal, just in different ways.
Lowering module in mine has always been H&R.
600BHP through the rear wheels
