Lewis is a troll - simple as that. Nothing's changed. Look at the subject of this stupid thread.
He's taking advantage of the current SN situation to try to weadle his way back into favour - just like Gollum.

Yup, although he's far worse than any 'normal' troll UB as he's here all the time (under his many, many guises, ***** cat or otherwise) rather than just popping up now and again to stir sh*t.
Lewis (in all his incarnations) has imo caused more problems and factions within SN than every other trouble maker put together. As for not doing any harm
If only everyone knew who 'all' his other user names were, wow that would certainly be a huge eye opener

Anyone that could not see a possible economic meltdown, due to excessive borrowing, was either delluded or just plain stupid.
At least we may not have to worry about the environment now..... we may be all living out of caves and riding flintstone mobiles soon.

I see no reason why this thread should be locked imo.... ignore the chaff and carry on discussing this emotive topic.

I rest my case, the most complete variation or manifestation of a dysfunctional schemata I've ever seen.
Three of the 'lewis' user names posting in quick fire succession.
Whoever you are, seek some professional help soon.

Ok, anymore of this and I'm going to lock this thread!
It has the potential to generate a stimulating discussion of an interesting (and highly relevant) subject.
However, over the last half a page, it's rapidly becoming nothing more than a platform for people to oust someone who they find objectionable.
The content isn't even funny, so it's not worth moving to the hutch!
Please Keep it on topic people, if you have a problem with someone, ignore them and/or report them to us, if appropriate. If you do this, you're part of the solution, if you take threads off topic with posts that contain nothing but disparaging comments and provocation, you're part of the problem.
Cheers,
Ns04

Seriously, some people are actually managing to have a discussion surrounding this topic. Interesting to some, not to others. By and large the topic is not causing issue, so please keep the insults out of it.
If you don't like a poster, then just stay away, easy. The topic itself has generated interest, so please keep it on topic, and not about Pete.

Ok back on track. Sure, some people are OK, many people are suffering. Some are suffering more so than others. End of interesting discussion for some but not for others.
Where is the nearest soup kitchen for the others btw?

This crunch isnt just going to be "okay" in a couple of years time. The economy has died on it's **** in so many different ways. It won't just go away.
Yes lots of us aren't feeling any effect, in fact some are doing well (we feel things are good down here) but I reckon it'll be a long stretch before we get back to anything like we were two years ago.
The government is not far off bust, we are going to be taxed to the hilt with no gain in any services and I am starting to worry about funds for the Olympics too. What a mess!

I don't think this is a trolling thread at all.
It's probably going to be the single biggest factor for most people within the next twelve months. It will be interesting to see how/whether people's perceptions change from here. Personally i couldn't be more pessimistic, but then i'm one of those w*nker bankers that nobody gives a toss about.

But whether people think this is a trolling thread or not, there is a legitimate question in this thread, worthy of discussion:
What role does the media have in the financial situation, given that much trading is predicated around confidence?

You have touched on what I am interested in. It's alright for some right now, but will it stay that way? How many people feeling secure now, will not be further down the line?

I have a feeling many of us currently feeling "secure" will have tough times ahead.
We rent and have a decent lump of savings but what use is that if our pound plummets much more?
What use are savings if the banks they are in die a death?
How far will savings and earnings go once the government starts to claw back these debts through higher taxes?
Stuff like environmental issues are being thrown out of the window as for many, its become a survival situation.
I don't think this is a blip - I think this is a disaster.
By 2010 I reckon we'll have:
4 millions unemployed
Income tax up 5-10%.
VAT back up above 17.5%
A very weak pound so importing will cost us a fortune.
An even bigger national debt
Housing down 60%
Might emigrate to France!

Sorry in advance for the wordy post, it may just get deleted though
Held off saying anything but there's some kind of lack of sense going on here from a few directions.
The initial post clearly may well have been a credit to the trolling trade (as per the words of title, the post content and the change in stance further on in discussion which does not match the original title).
However, the community has then kept the discussion in line with what constitutes a decent bit of debate and opinion giving, rather than going for all out verbal war, which is nice to see.
Once the topic was properly on track, I was interested in the replies that were being given regarding all sides, those who have not been feeling any change in their financial situation, thos that feel theirs may be at risk in future and those who have already been stung for whatever reasons.
I can see where the guys are coming from who are screaming "troll!!!" but the thread hadn't descended into anarchy until they took the bait.
I was also curious as to the banned status of the OP in question but that is for another thread/forum, maybe a mod replying as such would be better than simply deleting the posts though.
Banned or not, Lewis has sparked some lively debate. Fair do's
Back on topic, I haven't felt any real problems due to the 'crunch' etc. but I have had issues due to my shoit employers moving goalposts etc.
with a situation that is in no way linked to the economic climate (can't go into it for many reasons though).
So spending has been a tiny bit tighter than it was a few months ago but I just went out, got a second job and now all is sorted

Loads are buggering off Matt and i have to say who can blame them?
I know the grass is never always greener but i personally know of about 12 people that have buggered off to Australia and someone who is off to Canada.
Thing is you can only tax people too much and something has to give and i think its ready to give.

One of the guys I supervise in my second job was bursting a blood vessel at the amount of tax that comes off his wages, last night. I totally understand considering he's doing this job for extra money and feels that it all just goes to the scroungers with 40" tellies and 50 kids

The topic of trolling is totally irrelevant to the thread in question, as - as you've rightly said- just distracts from an interesting discussion!
Ns04
PS I haven't the heart to delete your entire post as a) it's a long post agreeing with me
![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
b) It's relevant at the end, but please, NO more comment on the issue!!!!!

Chief - aren't Oz and Canada pretty shakey at the moment too though?
We are in the deepest merde of any EU country by a fair margin. Suddenly joining the Euro looks like a good option - if the EU will "have" us!
