£586.99 - 2009 Specialized Rockhopper Disc

Probably a 19" or 21" frame but check out the bike first in a shop!

I'm 6'1 and had a 19" 2005 Rockhopper so a 21" might be better but as SJ says, a visit to a shop will help.

Aint that the truth! I live pretty close to Thetford, which is good for a MTB thrash. Have, of late, been going there on an eight year old Ridgeback, no suspension, which has been great.

I am not Steve Peat, but have been blasting past people on their Cannondale, Scott, etc who think they are all that (and being head to toe in Fox, etc, surely they must be) and loving it to bits.

In saying that I am buying a new Hardrock, and keeping the Ridgey for road work with a change of tyres.

My bikes weren't too expensive when I bought them but spent some serious cash on upgrades and other bits since. (Prob more than I want to admit to )

The fleet is;

Specialized Big Hit DH bike (£3.5k all in)
Scott Nitrous FR/XC bike (£2.5k all in)
Kona Stuff Hardtail (£1.5k all in)
KOT MS2 Trials Bike (£1.5k)
Commencal Locale BMX (£500)

Could've bought myself a really nice Scoob for that!

The Dh & XC rigs both need pretty much a new drive train too so thats gonna be another £500 down the drain

Good job I enjoy riding them! Don't have any good pics atm but will hopefully post some up later.

Tried out all my new kit this morning on my daily 10 miler - MASSIVE improvement and decent weight saving too.

J4CKO -it's just like surfing. Those who talk about it all the time and have all the kit are quite often ****. I have seen SO many on mega machines that can barely make it up a slight gradient, are terrified of any DH section and can't do even basic stuff like a proper bunny hop...

Some nice bikes on here! Every year I keep meaning to brush the dust off my Kona Cindercone (with Manitu forks) but it just never happens!

Bike was £1050 in 1996/7 with the forks but it's probably worth **** all now which is why I've still got it! Ah oneday it'll get used again

SPDs - NO NO NO NO NO!!

They encourage very poor bunnyhop technique. Need to learn on flats then go onto SPDs if you are used to them.

You can unclip quite easily mid hop and really hurt yourself - I have several times!
I now use decent super lightweight flats at all times.

I have 2 bikes, a 1996 fully rigid steel trek that I have ridden to death.

I also have a 1998 Giant TCR road bike, the frame and seat post are the only original bits. Over 50k miles on an Ally frame !

anybody actually ride to work today in all the snow on their fab machines though ?

I did and it was an absolute hoot in the snow. piece of cake as long as its deep etc- its the compacted stuff on the road that makes it hard.

top tip though- drop yr saddle - just easier to unclip a foot and dab a little,

likewise drop tyre pressures a bit, for a little more traction.

no way am I getting caught with the cagers in their muppet mobiles on the roads

Ride to work everyday come rain or shine.

I spent an hour last night getting the MTB ready for the mass of snow they had forecast. Was gutted when I woke up this morning to nothing more than gale force winds and rain. MTB is at home and I used the road bike....

well just been out over the woods and fields near us for about an hour - like a mudbath out there today, nearly had a bad off downhill through some deep trench like mud, just managed to hold it together though

Heres mine mid route (Kona Explosif, with Shimano hyd discs)

And my road bike (Focus Cayo Carbon)

2006 Giant XTC SE

Its the (near) perfect bike for me, as its only used for light/meduim cross country and it fitted my budget.

Pedals changed to some XT spds (first time with spds, seem ok), but will be needing to change the BB and crankset soon as theres a little play there now, only other change is likely to be a better set of forks if I can be bothered to spend money on it, changing other components is pointless as i cant fault them.

It's a medium which is approx 17.5", but feels bigger than my Mrs 17" Hardrock Sport
