For me it's the whole thing. The songs, the lights / decorations, the old movies - It's A Wonderful Life, the best ever. But most of all it's about the memories.
Thinking back to being a kid and how exciting it was. I'm old so bear with me.... we used to do our own advent calenders.. just a piece of paper counting down the days to xmas.

Leaving our chairs laid out for Santa, a few old pennies and a mince pie

Thats why I want to make sure Xmas is as special for my young lad (6 ). We both have advent calenders and each day I get back from work he gets me to open mine and I share the choccy treat with him.

THATS WHAT CHRISTMAS IS ABOUT the joy and excitment it brings to kids - even if they are 46 like me

I kept my decs in the garage last year up high on a shelf! and a day after that sat on my living room floor, i went ot take something out one of the boxes and it had all been chewed!! pesky frigging mice! as i lifted out the cloth advent calender thing, loads of mice pooped dropped out! absolutly sick!! Now i probably have crappy mice hiding somewhere in the house! and with a 3 year old that leaves food crumbs and crips all over the place they sure will have a happy crimbo!

Left a choccy bickie on the carpet last night just to see if it would get nibbled on!

didnt expext to come down and find the other half on all fours nibbling it! (joking!)

nothing had touched it! so maybe i have mice maybe i dont , they dont make me feel festive thats for sure!
When my husband gives me his credit card so i can go shopping for pressies, thats when i will feel the warmth!

My mother was Austrian and when I was a child we used to get our presents according to her tradition which was on the evening of Christmas Eve.

We would not be allowed in the sitting room until 6 o clock and when we walked in the tree was all lit up with candles instead of electric lights and it was beautifully decorated with the old type and very attractive glass decorations. It was a soft kind of light which created a magic atmosphere.

Then Father Christmas would walk in the other door and hand out all the presents.

It was a lovely way to do all that for children and my sister and I have never forgotten what were golden moments for us.

For me its watching all them 'christmas films' that you have seen before, year in year out, and most probably own, but you still make time to watch when they are on the box during the holidays....that and eating roses, good food and drink whilst watching Top of the Pops Christmas special, The Two Ronnies and all that jazz in front of a lovely crackling fire and you that full up with food and drink that you cant move....
