So do people use NF every 3rd tank or so as advised on the bottle to remove all the residuals? or jsut chuck it in every fill up?

I,m in abit of a ponder at the min, i always use V-POWER but when i bought the car there was a quarter of a bottle of NF Booster what the guy had left, so i filled the car up yesterday and emptied what little there was into the tank, thing is now, the car is going for a FMIC Fitted this week and map and i,m wondering whether i should hammer this fuel out and fill up with new V-POWER, or cus it was only such a little bit just have it mapped on this tank full..........

It prob won't make too much diff - but I'd still err on the side of caution...

If you don't intend on using NF, then I'd defo run the tank down, and then fill up again with whatever fuel you want it mapped on. If you get it mapped with that bit of NF in, then the timing might be a bit too advanced for when you use V-Power only - which could contribute towards det.

Hi Joz,

Yes i,m with you all the way on this tbh, i,m going to give it a good run tomorrow and take it on a fresh tank of V-POWER, DON,T want any det issues etc with the car..

Guys I have a map with andy forrest at end of Jan.

I am just trying to work out whether mapping for nf octane booster is worth the cash or not?

Really confused over this!
Is there a bhp gain worth using it for?
Is it a lot more expensive to use as a replacement for the fuel loss?
Is it ok to use if only remapped for v power?
Thanks again folks

- If you add a third of a bottle of NF to 50ltrs (using more than 2ml NF to 1ltr fuel doesn't gain you any extra octane rating) of, say, V-Power, you can get to about 101 RON... And if you do this just prior to a remap, then theoretically the mapper will prob be able to map in a bit more ignition advance for a bit more power/torque.

Is it a lot more expensive to use as a replacement for the fuel loss?
- A third of a bottle of NF works out at about £4.20, so £4.20 on top of whatever you are currently paying for 50ltrs of fuel. This doesn't 'displace' any fuel but adds to it - as a third of a bottle is only 100ml i.e. it's only 0.2% of the total amount! lol.

Is it ok to use if only remapped for v power?

- Yes. Theoretically you won't gain any more power, but you will add a bit of protection against det (should conditions arise to promote it).

Small word of caution...

If you do that and get mapped for it, then you will have become 'married' to the NF lol i.e. you really should, therefore, use the same dosage of NF to fuel every time you put fuel in. Otherwise, if you don't, then the mapped-in ign. adv. could be a bit too much for V-Power alone, and you could run into possible det issues!

Your choice...

I know mate, thanks for the word of caution
Seems to be not bad priced for the stuff, and it aint that expensive to run a car on it.
I fill up a full tank maybe twice(three times) a month
But your right mate, its the fact that im "married" to it which is worrying, I was never good with commitment! lol
No seriously, sounds like a great idea but is it worth an extra 5-10bhp...now that is the question!
Cheers mate........whats your view on it joz8968? What you running bhp wise now and are you considering this route?
Ta!

Just empty your tank and map it on V-POWER ........ you can always use NF afterwards if you wish.......

Not hassle but i,d imagine can get expensive over time if you,re dependant on using it, i,d say have it mapped on V-POWER and as said, if you still feel the need to add a few more octaneS then by all-means do.

I,ve got about a quarter of a bottle in a fullish tank at present and the car is going to be mapped this coming week, SO i,ll be getting rid of my tank-full tomorrow then filling up just with V-POWER for maaping..

Cheers Pete
Im thinking your right on this one!
Its gonna cost me an arm and a leg over the next while with remap and the rest.
Im sure the car will be fast enough without the need for octane booster.
Im starting to think scoobs cost enough without that bill on top every tan full!
What you hoping bhp wise to get your remap Pete?

Cheers

You have to ask yourself, honestly, "can I be bothered?" If the answer is "not sure/no" then don't map it on NF (any gains to be had prob aren't worth the hassle anyway ).

I couldn't be bothered with octane boosters and, TBH, I'm a bit sceptical of them

That's why I'm only mapped for 97 RON (can't always guarantee getting to a Shell garage), but I do put in V-Power when I can... or if I know I'm going to hoon.

By mapping for lower 97 RON (but not as low as 95... too much power to be lost ), but using 99 RON, I'm giving my engine a 'second line of defence' against det (should it come about).

Not really sure or fussed tbh fella, it,s running a nice 330/330 now, it,s more for the cooling and safety aspect i,m doing it for..

My power is plenty enough for a nice responsive road car, plus i don,t want a dead gearbox this side of Christmas..

Gents, sort of on-topic-ish question - anyone know a good mapper in the midlands (preferably redditch / worcester area) that could re-map my MY98 WRX to v-power please? And would this need a piggy-back ECU to accomplish?

Many thanks
Andy.

Andy, you could take your car to API in Leamington to get it mapped, David who owns the buisness is a great fella and he uses Bob Rawle and Pat for his mapping, or you could get intouch with Jolly Green Monster (AKA SIMON) off here he comes to you to map the car, all are very good mappers...

Andy, also MY93-98 have unmappable ECUs, so you need to get an Apexi Power FC (cheapest)... or for not a lot more coin, the Simtek.

Simtek is has more features, is MAP-based (so can unplug MAF and not worry about it anymore), plus it allows 2 genuine separate maps e.g. one for 97 RON... and another for V-Power 99 (or even a V-Power + E85 mix). See JGM's website for prices etc: www.jollygreenmonster.co.uk

Yes, but what I meant was that they aren't mappable 'out of the box' (unlike the 'ready to go' EcuTek-mappable ECUs of MY99/00 cars) i.e. you'd have to add the ESL daughterboard hardware first.

In any case that's irrelevent to Vertigo as he has a v.3 or 4, hence my suggestion of the next cheapest options of PFC and Simtek (and before anyone says, I know that ESL are allegedly working on the daughterboard for the 97/98 car too ).

You're kidding Mark, right? Can only just about afford to put V-Power in, let alone that stuff lol.

How are you Mark? Good to see you back on here, after your not very pleasant send off, the last time you started a thread (remember that?! ). Mind you, you did provoke them lol.

Did Santa get you any SEiW or 182 goodies then?

P.S. I'll try to drag my sorry *** down to Braintree tomorrow...
