LOL some people, when the government has been shown to improve something its said to be hype and spin, when the papers and news say the government has done something wrong its believed as fact, even when a lot of what you see in the media is merely opinion and exaduration.
The government say something and it has a hidden agenda, yet news paper editors etc of course, never ever have a hidden agenda, oh no ...oh and note that according to the BBC site there wasn't a drop first, only a yearly improvement, at least from 95.

As mentioned before if this was a negative thread it would be a lot fuller and I'm shore if the tables showed our kids getting worse and being lower as a result more people would believe it without question.

They have lied to us for the last eleven years or so-why should we believe them now?

I am all for kids doing well, good on them, if it stops them turning into the negative, violent, sneering, jealous evil little turds that seemingly inhabit parts of our towns then that can only be a good thing, I really get annoyed at the desire to aquire stuff, money, mobiles, jewellrey, clothes they have without the sense to realise you need to actually pull your finger out and do some work to get it, the too cool for school mentality, my mates daughter has it, she has said "The teacher was disrespectin me" ffs and "Givin me evils", though she seems to have now got down to some work.

I hate how we celebrate mediocrity and crapness in our cities, whole areas full of the lazy, stupid and greedy, so yes, some good news is welcome.

I was the first year to take gcses. did 8 of them.

at the age of 15 we also took 4 o levels- to get subjects out of the way I guess.

no two ways about it- o levels were far harder.

as now demonstrated by A star system- because and A grade means nothing.

I can tell you as an employer- gcse/nvqs etc mean nothing- you can see that in how illiterate and thick employees are coming through the system thesedays. regardless of grades- I make staff pass practical numeracy and literacy tests before considering employing them.

what was the score- 25% would get you an A grade now ? I'd have been beaten senseless by the teacher for producing crap like that.

Reading some peoples posts you'd think our kids weren't capable of doing well , this country is becoming so negative its getting ridiculous . Yeah you shouldn't believe everything politicians tell you, but not all positive stuff is a lie you know, how paranoid are people getting?! and why are people so ready to believe negative things but not positive?

But its not about what we read. It's what lands on our doorsteps asking for jobs and its not impressive.

Especially unimpressive when they say some University has given them a degree but they can't spell the word.

say what you like about Labour

but I worked as a consultant for the NGFL (National Grid for Learning) from 1999 to 2005 and visited many hundreds of schools throughout that period and the investment in schools was tremendous -- billions and billions

I went to some new primary schools built, that were world class in terms of facilities -- especialy for the special needs kids`

and from my own evidence, I have 5 kids, 3 of which ae in education the standard is amazing -- my kids have more homework, than I ever did and are V confident at public speaking etc etc (and they are not the exception)

not perfect -- but not bad imo

I do not think anyone can dispute that school standards up to GCSE have improved I do however think that GCSE's are ridiculously easy, I am pretty sure that the average 14 year old could pass their GCSE's with very little extra work.
