mmm, sounds very dodgy to me, its a insurance claim no questions asked with that much damage.
£900 excess? have to say someone saw you comming with that one. max i've heard of before now is £500.
from the damage and age then sounds like it'll get writen off anyway, so will just nock the £900 off the payout. you'll prob end up with more money that way anyway.
final thing would be to buy the car back from the insurance company and strip it for parts to sell on.

Best thing to do is repair and then sell (you might get a bit more) but if your looking for a quick sale wack it on ebay as is and see how it goes, only issue is if you've hit the front wheel pos the hubs bent. so means tracking needs to be done along with repairs to the body work. I'd say £1k as is depends how bad (I Would be interested)
Main problem with breaking is it takes ages and you normaly end up with the shell left and you only make a little bit more cash but you have to work twice as hard!!
Hope this helps

I walked away from one
![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
Damage was airbag (drivers) lights (both) front bumper, bonnet, radiator and a very slight twist in the chassis (sound familiar?
![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
Also walked away from a front/side impact, car hit me at about 40mph, i was doing about 20-25mph, he ran a red light, damage, wheel, wishbone, bonnet, front right light, airbag, drivers door, front rhs wing, inner wing wasnt actually that bad, chassis was twisted badly though as it pushed the car sideways (also sound familiar?)
At 15mph you would scratch the bumper.

PS both were repairable!

All rather anecdotel though ...but luckily for us the nice people at ncap have a 40mph head on impact test, which they tend to video every now & then

Still reckon 15mph would only 'scratch a bumper'?

Well, my head on (oncoming car waiting to turn right & then just pulled out) was 'only' at 20- 25mph & wrote the car off (ripped f/bumper, front wing & front wheel off inc. driveshaft) ...I didn't even have time to hit the brake pedal.

99% of crashes do not involve static objects, they involve other objects that move

Shame i never had pictures of either, considering both were impacts over 50mph and the damage was considerably less than that of hitting a static object

an impact at 40mph or even 60mph can cause less damage due to physics ![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)

The first video is a 'Frontal impact1 test'
From the ncap website;
Frontal impact takes place at 64kph (40mph), car strikes deformable barrier that is offset.
Each car tested is subjected to an offset impact into an immovable block fitted with a deformable aluminium honeycomb face. This impact is intended to represent the most frequent type of road crash, resulting in serious or fatal injury. It simulates one car having a frontal impact with another car of similar mass. As most frontal crashes involve only part of the car’s front, the test is offset to replicate a half width impact between the cars. In the test, this is replicated by having 40 percent of the car impact the barrier. The barrier face is deformable to represent the deformable nature of the cars. This test is a severe test of the car’s ability to survive the impact without suffering passenger compartment intrusion.
But seeing as the OP hasn't mentioned another party, i'd suggest he's probably hit something a little less deformable than another vehicle

1st car wont be cat d or c unless written off!
2nd sounds like mods aint been declared to me as i would claim and go for a lower group car for a couple of years if they load it up too much, i take it you did declare the mods even the non standard alloys facelift front end etc??
if not sell the parts you can the chop the rest in for scrap!
as for declaring it i thought as long as you a, didnt hit another car and b, dont claim they cant really find oout about it??
anyway it is a shame as nice looking car but i sold my old m plate wrx running 330bhp with loads of mods in oct for 2500!!!!
and only just got back into a wagon sti now
good luck though as your 100% right when you say insurance try to get out of paying up!!
