I still prefer the Rufus Wainright version: in that happy kind of way I would like it played at my funeral!

To my ears version he performs on stage is superior because it is his own interpretation

That Rufus Wainwright cover was recorded specially for the Shrek soundtrack ands was intended to be a note for note copy of John Cale's cover as used in the film itself

I'm thinking John Cale's version is on a par with Buckley's. Absolutely love the guitar playing on the Buckley version. Wainwright is a close third. Women shouldn't be allowed to sing it - the whole POV lyrically is male and the words make no sense sung by a woman.

I constantly confuse the order of JCs and RWs recordings (probably because I prefer the RW one), but Ive always felt that theyre both very much in the style of JB. Leonard Cohens original is very different.

I haven't bought either, but I realised earlier today that X-Factor sh1te version has two complete verses missing from it! What a load of overblown codswallop it is.

The irony is, with it being released by cowell the song has the line.
You don't really care for music do you?
Not to mention the lyrics implies that alexandria must bat for the other side.
Well that's the general public im afraid bubba, never know good music whatsoever.
buckley might not make number 1 but it'll sure as hell embarrass cowells version when they're played next to each other in the charts
People will hear the difference!!

Im sorry, but that Cohen fella looks and sounds like an X factor reject, I watched it and listened to it and thought it was a wind up.
Are you sure he doesnt work in a chicken factory.
Three no's from me.

Actually here's one thing i didn't realise, the download charts are done off quite a few places, on itunes alone buckley is both at number 3 and number 21, then there's other download sites to take into account.
Could be interesting times, i think the carts are both run the same time.

....agree, although not 100% certain I'd score Rufus so highly, always sounded a bit monotone to me (I know that's part of the appeal) and that's even in comparison to Cohen's

I think we could do with brief respite from the holder personage etc.
Gloom and doom is fashionable ( could it be the current climate ) you just have to survey the ranks of paper-back 'victim' publications down at whs , if it hasnt gone bust .
Go on my son (Buckley - even tho he copped it 10 years ago )

That is quite funny, I must have missed the morning they did that!
(it also goes to show that the tune is good irrespective of the words!)
