the difference is, he was a babbling ***** with very little air-time since the accident he's got a book, a DVD and a million different tv programmes were he gets to babble even more.

I found the hydrogen stuff particulaly interesting although they did gloss over many of the drawbacks.

I'm no scientist but why can't anyone invent a car that powers itself. For example the battery powered cars - why cant these be charged by some kind of alternator when the wheels are driven. The car could charge itself as its driving.
I await a more intelligent person than myself to come along and tell me why its not possible.

I was a little bored during Top Gear last night for the first time this series.

Yup, you can't get out more than you put in. You can't even get out all of what you put in, not even close.
JK's bag contained Xmas pressies for them. Expect to see it on the out-takes clips on TG.com

I expect the Marina Owners Club are still upset with TG!
Waste of a good piano that!
Having said that, I must be approaching the "pipe & slippers" age as I looked at the line up of cars that they crashed the Jag & caravan onto and thought - Morris Minor, Mk1 Golf, and Cortina shouldn't be under that lot!

Heat
Entropy
Leakage
Basically for the amount of energy produced by the battery has losses on the way to the motor through the wires. It then has heat, frictional and more losses in the windings of the motor. Then the output of the electric motor has to drive the wheels which has more losses in the bearings and the rolling resistance in the wheels (which is expended as heat).
I would hazard a guess that 20-40% of the energy is lost in translating potential energy into kinetic energy.
Then, if you attach an alternator you get the same in reverse. Even assuming ideal conditions at best you will only get 60% of your energy back.

When JM said that hydrogen costs about the same as petrol, presumably that was US prices, i.e. a lot cheaper than UK petrol. Also presumably that's cents per mile. All the up front costs are included (generation, distribution, storage etc.) unless it is subsidised. So it all sounds good.
What will the government do when they have no excuse for applying a fuel duty and lose a load of revenue?

Wizard's sleeve, you dont see that on BBC2 very often! Back ground scenery included (as noted).

The whole show is on the decline IMHO. Watching the Dave re-runs the older shows have much more to offer. I'd rather they lost 3-4m viewers but went back to cars instead of trying to be a comedy trio. I often wonder when the episode where they race a bathtub down a Yorkshire hillside will be on these days....

Equally $h!t, apart from Suzi's short skirts providing some justification to its existence. Although, she's starting to look a bit mutton IMHO.

If you separate the three of them they are all good presenters, even Hammond settles down a bit. Its only when they are in the same show that they become childish and irritating.
