All Apple owners are smug nobbers for a good reason, even their own adverts portray them as that, which (among other reasons) is why we are quite happy the likes of you non Apple owners will never have one.

My smugness comes from using the same laptop for over NINE years with only a single HDD failure which was easily fixed and no hassle at all. The fact that just about everything I've ever asked it to do it has done, easily and quickly, and every device I have ever connected to it works faultlessly. It automatically syncs my calendar and contacts with my phone, and it even checks my spelling without being asked to or installing any further apps. Old age is taking its toll WRT processor speeds so I may be buying a new Mac soon, but it would never cross my mind to buy the other type of computer. I use them at w*rk, and hate every cursed second. I also use Macs at w*rk and until we upgraded for application specification reasons, they were about 9yo too having never seen an engineer and w*rked faultlessly. Our Windoze based server on the other hand has a rather expensive 24/7 support contract with Canada which is called upon frequently And the army of Dell office machines have an average lifespan of about 2 years.

I'm happy with my choice

its all here

Charlie Brooker on why he hates Apple Macintosh computers | Comment is free | The Guardian

please read its a great article, whether a MAC or PC

a sample

I hate Macs. I have always hated Macs. I hate people who use Macs. I even hate people who don't use Macs but sometimes wish they did. Macs are glorified Fisher-Price activity centres for adults; computers for scaredy cats too nervous to learn how proper computers work; computers for people who earnestly believe in feng shui

I think people who don't use IE because it's SOOOO vulnerable should read this:

Mozilla hastily shoves Firefox updates out door ? The Register

and this:

Opera releases update for 'extremely severe' vulns ? The Register

and all the Apple evangelists should maybe realise that Apple is a more closed shop than MS is nowadays:

Apple more closed than Microsoft ? The Register

Oh yes, and I take back what I said about only go to trusted sites, even some of them are showing the exploit code. So get patching folks... I rolled out the update with no testing this morning to a huge user base.

Talking

Cue 10 years of nasal bleating from Mac-likers who profess to like Macs not because they are fashionable, but because "they are just better". Mac owners often sneer that kind of defence back at you when you mock their silly, posturing contraptions, because in doing so, you have inadvertently put your finger on the dark fear haunting their feeble, quivering soul - that in some sense, they are a superficial semi-person assembled from packaging; an infinitely sad, second-rate replicant who doesn't really know what they are doing here, but feels vaguely significant and creative each time they gaze at their sleek designer machine.
At least it's not like that on here.. (snigger)

Billyray911, none of the alternatives really are the same to use as IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera, they all are different, often deliberatly so to differentiate between products. It's worth trying them for a while. I personally use Firefox and have done for about 5 years. One of the advantages of it is the huge amount of add-ons and extensions you can install to customise it.

It's horses for courses really. If you still prefer to use Internet Exploder, ALWAYS ensure that your PC is updated, and has current security software.

I've started to move to Ubuntu on my laptop, partly because it's less of a target for the bad guys. If I could get my bluetooth headphones working reliably I'd probably not use Vista at all on my laptop. I have had to support Mac usage at work in a small way, and they do my head in, but that hasn't stopped me recommending them to some people that just want to "do the Internet thingy", or are technophobes. The Mac does a lot of hand holding and make things simple.

For those that are old enough, just think how different it is these days. Remember pre-Windows 3.x, how about C-DOS, SUNOS, CP-M. Youngsters of today don't know they've been born!

Well, I had one of those Microsoft 'updates will be installed when you shut down your computer' messages this morning so I assuming that this was the IE patch they've released. If you've had that message as well I guess the patch has been installed and IE is safe to use again?

Can anybody confirm this?

Cheers

If you're using Vista, you Windows Update history should have the highlighted patch. Not sure about XP, but the KB number is probably the same.
