Sounds to me like you should be the manager at kwik fit!
lol, my local partco (same as pages) sells parts to quickfit ?

you have to think like this

your andrew pages or partco, infact i will use mine as an example, is situated in a grungey little trading estate somewhere, with broken tarmac and next to no signs

the local quickfits are all placed in much better "prime/expensive" locations, with easy to see signage and are staffed by more people, plus they fit the parts, it is not hard to see why you can get the parts cheaper elsewhere ?

i would agree that most quickfits seam to need a dam good clean and a repaint, but they are bang in the major towns, easy to find, and much more accessible to the average joe, who knows nothing about cars and when questioned by the bloke in partco on his car model number, can only say "err its a red one"

i am not sticking up for them, i have no vested interests in them, i use them all the time myself, only because my mate never charges me unless he really has to (last month i had 3 aircon recharges for free pmsl)

but i would not take the car in for a full exhaust anyway as i like to fit the bits myself, i did take my car down once and borrow the ramps to fit my scooby exhaust lol

agree with that 100%

will give you an example, although i cant name names for various reasons.

a popular wash company runs a promotion on during the busy winter periods, offering extra commision rates for more units put through the machine over a set amount

ie: you get a target of say 50/hour units, the machine will technically do 90 units, to do this the machine is speeded up, the customer gets a worse end result due to less time spent per unit, the operator gets his extra £1 per unit over target commission and thinks "**** em"

in my opinion this is wrong, and so do lots of customers opinions judging by feedback, i know the majority still go for the bonus commission to make a "quick buck" at the expense of loosing long term customers

the deal is they only earn a tenner on any part they sell them,, its stupid tbh but its whats agreed,, unipart is a MASSIVE company, REALLY big and partco NEVER makes a profit and never will either !!!!

some branchs loose more money that you would belive !!!

they are restructuring though, getting rid of the minimum wage staff who aint got a clue and poaching staff from rival companys to help bring them to break even,,,,,, as said i was ment work there but the branch they wanted me for was mitcham,, offered company car and petrol paied, finish at 4:30 every day too,, just didnt wanna comute through central london for 2 hours every morning and was also poached by another company who i work for now,,, and hate pmsl

Very true fella & how hard (read expensive) is it to retain an existing customer vs getting a new one on board.

Agree 100%. Garage that we go to (not for Scoob) are amazing - charge reasonable money for a service, only pick up genuine problems & as a result we always take the car back to them. They have a good rep for customer service no matter who you talk to. They always seeme to be busy too Remember one time when the turbo on our BM was smoking; everyone said the turbo had gone & that it would cost at least £1k to sort. This garage looked at it & diagnosed a leaking oil filter membrane, fixed it for about £50!

Not quite the same fella! If KF were Maccie D's they'd say the cheeseburger was rusty & the small chips were leaking so you needed the Large Big Mac Meal instead ...

Unhappy

Sadly not just the biggies, i have used a local company for some 10+ years on a reccommendation from an SN member, never really had much to complain about as the work and cs was wexellent

Was quoted £ 30.00 to fit an exhaust to our pug (old one had fallen off) bring it in on Saturday and i'll get ti done for you.

brought it in Saturday as arranged, chap was not there so leflt it with them and explained the situation and the price i had been quoted

Jenny picked up the car - got a bill for £ 70.00

I went back the following Monday as was fobbed off with excuses about the person who quoted not being there and them having a price review since i spoke with them, etc.

whilst it is not a fortune the principle is the issue and a lesson learned, i will not reccommnd them to anyone anymore as i do not now trust them and their word. Speaking with Jennys dad his partner (female) has the similar trouble quoted one price to him and when she collected it was more than quoted so not exactly a one-off.

very sad after 10+ years and now looking for a reccommendation for tyres and exhausts and simple mechanical work in the northampton area
