The Solaris is a very advanced ecu.
It's has been developed in conjunction with high end motorsport ecu manufacturer Life Racing but built to Pat's own specifications. i.e Life Racing ECUs are aimed at the professional motorsport market and the Solaris is aimed at high end road cars and non professional motorsporters.
It's a more powerful ECU than the simtek but it also costs a fair bit more.
Not quite Motec M800 money even though it's more capable straight out of the box.
Feel free to correct me if any of that is wrong.

To go back to the O.P.
Checking on the reputation of an ECU after you have committed to an installation is a bit **** about face?.......... is it not?
Good ECU with far more ability than say an Apexi Power FC but it cost a bit more. Superb boost control so no need for an AVC-R etc as required with some other ECUs so that makes the cost difference marginal for far better spec.
I have two, fitted about a year apart (95 WRX Wagon and 97 STi 3 Wagon)and am about to instal a third one in place of a Motec M800. Have a lot of customers with Simtek and have not heard of any cold start issues.
does anyone have the simtek fitted to their scooby im booked in to have mine done on 4th feb as long as its rated as good as the spec suggestions if u or anyone u know has it fitted can u tell me what is said about it as a grand is a lot to spend many thanks

I have had a Simtek fitted recently and have to say it's so far not impressed me compared to the EcuTek I had before.
No box of wires is going to be a cure-all for an engine but it looks like the image of the Simtek sometimes greatly exceeds its capabilities.... so set your expectations accordingly.

So what did your Ecutek do that the simtek can't.

The build isn't finished yet so the saga continues. I'll reveal all in the projects thread when the ongoing issues are resolved and the build is finished.
Suffice to say that the Ecutek only took one mapping session to completely configure, never lost settings and got 355bhp out of a 2.0 WRX.

From your comments it sounds like mapper hasn't got much SimTek experience?? appologies if wrong.. I am not trying to hype up the SimTek or any ecu, it just does exactly as it says on the tin imho.

My car's had major surgery and we've run into several 'snags'. It's just one thing after another really, but I think we're getting there. I have faith....
I'm going to write the whole thing up once the end result is known, as it wouldn't be fair to post names etc until the dust has settled. I've been involved with enough major projects to know it doesn't always go to plan. It's how the problems are handled that makes the difference.
Just wanted people to know that the Simtek doesn't glow in the dark, isn't made of fairy dust and does, sometimes, have problems, just like any other ECU, even at the hands of a very experienced mapper and top conversion builder....

Simtek
I had simtek fitted last oct and am very happy with it. I've not had any problems with the simtek when cold or warm and I would recommand it to anybody.
