The worry is that its the other pratt who causes the accident, and he might even be driving slowly, but the consequences will be immeasurably greater at very high speeds.

I am on record more than once in saying that we should have a higher max speed limit on motorways, maybe 85-90 mph, I think that would go some way to preventing traffic bunching, but with punitive penalties for exceeding them significantly.

Completely agree with the above post.

Anyone caught doing more than 100 Should have their licence removed for 5 years.

However - I maintain this should only happen after they have re-introduced the death penalty for ar$eholes caught while banned and drunk driving with no insurance / anyone twoccing / stealing a car at gun/knife point.

Someone I know went, he got told off in the first ten minutes for trying to put an alternative point, basically told to shut up and "learn", or he would be failed, wouldn't get his money back and would THEN still get the 3 points and £60 fine

In this area they are now £75

I got caught in a 30 that was a national....

Dropped because a drugged-up dealer crashed his "stingered" fiesta into a lamp-post at 30 mph whilst being pursued by the police ! Injured because he'd no seat belt, so we all suffer, GREAT !

dunx

P.S. Today I witnessed an OAP in lane three doing 70 mph.... sadly the other three lanes were all clear at the time ! Shot to kill !

P.P.S. If it bloody works why have I bolted an extra 50% more power to my car

Glad I found this.

I've been offered this, am inclined to just accept the points. Have had mixed responses from people.
I am not a one to bite my tongue and if they come over all patronising I may end up in jail

Dont roll over mate. Go to the course, politely ask for their opinion on things you have 'heard others say' now and again if appropriate. If its all about stopping distances etc - it might be appropriate to ask what new technology like 'Brake Assist' has on these figures? Ohh and imply you are a journalist if you get the opportunity early on... just to put these sanctimonious twits milking the system slightly on their toes.

If it is a load of predictable sh... then you could withdraw from the programme in person at the time taking someone with you and getting the story in your paper.

If its just a 'grin and bear it' to avoid 3 points then it could be the intelligent man's choice and also somewhat ironic to patronise them this way...

I'd go any time to avoid the points. Can't be that bad.

Is it worth losing your licence some time in the future because you did not accept the course though?

Les,
This is the first time it has happened to me and I still question the validity of the claim. That trap has caught out loads of people, including a little old lady, who usually holds up the flaming traffic. It is not there as a safety measure, it is there to gain money. There is a lot of complaints about it, but what can anyone do
I am not going to lose any sleep over 3 points

I would go on the course, the whole situation in this country is rediculous, everyone getting pinched for "Speeding", creeping over the limit by a couple of mph at 3 am and then getting a quarter of the way to being banned ffs, I really sympathise withthose that drive for a living or have to do a lot of miles as it is just so ineviatable that you will fall foul of a speed camera, probably in the area someone mentioned that had been dropped from NSL to 30 mph.

More focus needs to be put onto bad driving, like the cretin blocking lane three as mentioned, mobile phone usage as that is far more blatant, you cant accidentally pick your mobile up and make a call like you can accidentally stray a few mph over the limit.

The real speeders arent your mum on the way to TK Maxx, its like the complete **** in an Evo in Gatley on Saturday night blasting through the centre, accelerating out of a junction so hard he nearly lost it as a family were getting into their car, on foreign plates with a dark skinned chap driving and showing off, a town centre a nine pm with everyone around on a summer evening is not the place, thats what track days are for, hopefully he managed to crash it and immobilise it before he hurt someone. Its ***** like this that give performance car drivers, especially Scoobs and Evo's a bad name and the daft impression that the copper had about Scvoobs bening ***** extensions.

Jacko - is the 'dark skin' thing more directly linked to the throttle pedal mashing issue do you think? Or could it be completely irrelevant to the road safety point you are making?

Just a question...as a pasty Evo driver...

Thats your choice of course and I understand how you feel. My feelings are that speedcams have been shown to be inaccurate if badly operated and I don't think it is right to convict anyone on that evidence.

I would still prefer not to have the points though, you never know how things can turn out in the future.

It was in context of the fact it was on foreign plates so was not local to Gatley, didnt see where the plates were from but they weren standard uk plates, dont know what nationality he was but he wasnt pasty. Potentially someone may have seen a Silver Evo on Foreign plates been driven at speed by a dark skinned driver, like if I saw a young kid in a Saxo it would be assumed he was white, its me describing it, not getting a dig at anyone darker than I.

I was on this course last Tuesday, in my area we had to do a theory and a practicle part. Went on from 11am through to 6pm. Not all areas run the practicle side too.

It wasnt difficult, its not a pass or fail sort of day, they just tell you things you already know and talk a lot about stopping distances, the impact of going just 1mph over the speed limit etc.

It was worth it to keep a clean license, but it was very very boring. It wasnt run by the police, it was run by advanced driving instructors, they were very friendly and easy to talk with.

I posted a thread recently regarding the course and how strange it was that the practicle side was more about driving more economically rather than in my eyes safer...bit strange but perhaps that was more to do with my instructor.

I've had mixed reactions to it, to be honest. Am amazed at how many people this trap has caught. A few took the course option and said it was boring and a bit patronising.

I also noticed on the Option 1 to attend the course. It says:

Consent to share your personal information

I am declining and taking the points, even though I still doubt the speed clocked.

It was there again today, I went past at 25mph Wonder if I will get charged with driving too slow
