Hello from Rob @ A-Plan

I'm sorry but i think i've read enough about how A-Plan made a mistake now
Although I feel sorry for the inconvenience and hassle caused and every thing that you have suffered including costs as a result of this mistake, I think something needs to be clarified here.
I do not have first hand experience as I don't insure with A-Plan however, when I took my policy with another insurer it was clearly stated to me both on the phone and again in print on the policy that I must check all the details and inform them if there are any mistakes with it, and that if i didn't then those mistake could invalidate my insurance. (surely this is comman practice with insurers?)
This is the first time I have had to do this but, I received two copies of my policy one of which I kept and the other I signed and returned back to the insurer along with proof of my tracker and cat1 alarm.
Regardless of this are you honestly saying you didn't check the policy statement documents when you received them? Surely your reg is shown on your policy. If this is the case how can A-Plan be directly to blame?
I'm not taking sides at all on this however I feel that is a little unjust that A-Plan seem to be subject to such a dressing down, over one persons experience that IMO appears to not actually be their fault.
Granted I certainly wouldn't want to have to go through all that you have said on this and another thread, and as result maybe steered away from A-plan for future insurance.
I just think it's a little unfair thats all.
Just my two pennies

if they DID have a MAM system,, like i have at work and every other insurance company seems to have they would have NOT been able to insure a ford transit 2.5 diesel van,,,, as a 5 grand impreza sti !!!! its sort of a different car
they way they dealt with me in a cagey way, the way i had to visit thatcham to collect my documents even though they have branches closer is the customer service i dont accept
i pay insurance,,,, i dont stare at it like ill ever need it, its just a legal requirement,,,,, and as i have owned cars for over 10 years now and have a few insurance policys its easy to over look,,,, though allowing me to insure a ford transit as a impreza sti,,,, for 1300 quid AND not give me a refund on the balance as a ford transit is ALOT less to insure,,, i dont get that part either tbh, im noy insured on my sti YET i dont get a refund cause my insurance was for a impreza sti.... strange one
as said it just anoys me though, the cash i aint worried about as im fortunate, the old bill aint doing me for no insurance as i DID purchase it,,, A-plan started my policy from the day the reg plate was changed though wich REALLY helped me,,, cheers for the support there

Trouble with insurance premiums is that unless you make a claim, you get absolutely nothing for your premium. So in that sense, all insurance companies are equal. Therefore it is impossible to tell whether you get what you pay for. In the event of a claim, everyone's circumstances and expectations are different, so that is not a very good measure of value for money either.

Been with A plan for both cars for a few years now. Wife's windscreen cracked last week and they had a guy at our door very next morning with the new windscreen and that's for an 08STI, so not many people have windscreens in stock (and the policy is with marketstudy)
I've worked in insurance (not car though, for 18 years) and am happy with what I've seen so far.
Renewal always come back higher, I just get a couple of comparison quotes, phone them back and they match the price

Have to disagree here!
Thats the brokers job not yours
If I find a cheaper quote I go with it not get them to price match thats just lazy IMHO
Nothing against A Plan in this respect just a happy KM customer

Been with A Plan for 2 years now.Always use a price comparison site to get a cheaper quote and A Plan seem to always match it - which suits me,not sure i would call it lazy, just easier!
Yes they should give you the cheaper quote first but all companies are the same in that respect.
The only other company i phone are KM but so far they can't get anywhere near A Plan for my particular circumstances and that's by their own admission.
As for claiming,i have gap insurance for the next 18 months so i couldn't give a monkies what Markerstudy offer me!

That's the thing as said....
Unless you need to claim you have no idea how good they actually are! We mostly just go for the cheapest price.
That said i lost a good few months no claims recently from a company when i sold the scooby for a 182 clio and they wanted the same premium off me! Wouldn't budge either saying that becuase it was a hot hatch and they didn't specialise in them that's why it was mega $$$$ BUT they can quote scoobys for cheap.
Do A plan insure imports?? On there site it says they don't.

Aplan deffo insure imports,, as said im with them untill april or may when i will be swopping for another company
there price seemed ok tbh compared to what i was quoted elsewhere though i still think that 1200 quid a year is a ****ing ripp off for someone with 4 years no claims and no convictions !!!!

when i was trying to renew at beggining of month i tried to ring them, not very good on phone then said they would have to phone me back, waited 2 days no call back, rang them said they still had to look at it as price was wrong and said they would ring back again.
a week passed and no call back so rang them, gave me a different price aftrer going through it all again (went UP) but would still have to check .
went else where in end and then they finally rang me a week after stiill trying to offer it me.
saved £190 elsewhere in end.

Been with A-Plan for a few years now. Always found their service to be polite and helpful. They have also been keenly priced, either being the cheapest or willing to match a cheaper quote.
I did have the misfortune to need to claim a few years back, circa 4 years ago. It was for my old little 106 GTi. I was reasonably happy with the valuation, thought it may have been light by about £500, but it was hard to value due to its incredibly low mileage.
It is worrying to read that others have had issues. All we can do is keep posting and make up our own minds.
