Lee Enfield no 2 and no 4 rifles, accurate over 1200 yards (even upto 1600 yards ) and dirt cheap still prefer that MRLS though

You cant expect a production semi-automatic rifle to be anything like as accuate as agood bolt action. Itll get closer though if you modify the gas system and a few things, which is impressive.

1000 yards is pretty good for an M14, like you say, not many semi auto rifles that good, the bren gun was (as posted by bravo) it was a little too accurate for a fully auto weapon though (unless set to single round).

Forget the .50 calibre mate, the Barrett .416 cal is faster, more accurate, and better killing power at greater range.
A Barrett M99 wit a Leupold Mk 4 with BORS should easily take care of the err female rodent.

If he could convince the supplier that the barrett was not just for civilian use he would be able to obtain the explosive rounds, much more penetration at over 2000m. Might be able to take some rodents out whilst they're underground.
Beauty of the barrett is that absorbs a lot of the 0.5 recoil.

The semi automatic does: the barrel slides back and it has a huge muzzle brake: the bolt action M95 must be an absolute b*stard to shoot though...

How about a nice Barrett .50 cal? That would sort the mice out....

DOH - already posted!

Sisters BF is an ex sniper and he used it regularly - said it was utterly crazy to use!
